Powerless

Nothing major going on in this part of the world on this lovely Friday afternoon. Last night was a little interesting though. I had just came in from admiring the Landscaping, Lappie in hand and fully ready to watch the Ultimate Fighter I had on my DVR from Wednesday night when I fell asleep early.

I sit down, just hit play on the DVR, grab the Lappie and Im ready to go. Before I could even get through the opening credits the fucking lights went out in the entire house. TV off, DVR off, everything pitch black. We live about 100 yards from a corner that people just can’t seem to see for whatever reason so at least once a month some ass is running into the telephone pole thats on that corner. My initial thought was that someone did exactly that. I head outside to check out the situation and I can see Smoke coming from the corner or what looked to be smoke, shortly after it was time for the sirens, so the initial thought about an accident was right on point.

It could have been worse I figured I had my Lappie and I could grab some candles and head out back until they get everything squared away. Bad thing was that my Lappie battery was already half power. Only thing I could hope at this point was that the power would come on before the battery died. I decided to jump online using the Verizon Air Card I use when I travel, I swear that thing is a life saver.

I check out Progress Energy to see what outages they have reported and to see if they have an Estimated time on when the power would come back on. I was actually surprised they have a system where you can see the outages, how many people it’s affecting and when it might be fixed (dont get me wrong I still hate Progress Energy). There were initially 2700 people without power, than we when I looked the second time the estimated time for repair had changed from 1am to 2am and now showed an outage of only 88 homes.

The kids were awake by this point, my Daughter hating every bit of the dark and my son awake thanks to his cold. I was hoping that putting some light’s near their bedroom and the hallway would have gotten them back to sleep, but no such luck. By this time my Lappie battery had died and it was now 1am and trying to get two kids to sleep was nothing less than a royal pain in the ass. Finally they fell asleep, I waited for the Power to come back on, at about 3:30am the power came back on. I woke everyone up and had them head to their beds, got all of the lights in the house under control and headed to bed. All in all it could have been much worse, I mean shit there are people out there that haven’t had power in months, so I really can’t bitch.
