Ok everyone I just took a peek at the date and I guess today is Monday which means it’s the official kick off of “Hell Week: A Week of Rants” and I just finished catching a news update that has me ready to write my first rant for the week.
My initial rant for today was scheduled to be a rant about a different company that I have been dealing with for the last few years off and on, instead the news update I just watched has me changing this post to my Progress Energy rant. Progress Energy was already scheduled to appear in this week’s Hell Week posts, but it was intended for some time later in the week.
To get everyone caught up to speed real quick before pitching my bitch for the day, Progress Energy and their continued greed get them added into the Monday spot, and by greed I mean “Hey let’s rate hike Florida customers AGAIN this year, maybe 30% sounds about right!”
Now for those of you unlucky Progress Energy customers (all of PE customers are unlucky) that might not live in Florida and feel left out, please have no fear I am almost positive Progress Energy will be in your neighborhood looking for money sometime soon. The greedy bastards always seem to come back for more, just when you least expect it.
Some of you are probably wondering what I am crying about and how long it’s actually going to take me to make my point so you can get out of here, it’s not going to take me long at all. If you are a Florida resident than chances are that you are aware of the fact that another Progress Energy rate increase is on the table for January. Something like another increase of 30%, no biggie at all with the strong job market and record setting pay increases that everyone is grabbing lately…. That smell is sarcasm, oh and the stench of Progress Energy.
Progress Energy Florida had a proposed rate increase in January of something like 25%, I wrote about that increase and titled it “Progress Energy what a Joke” over 92% of you voted in that poll and felt the rate hike was a joke. The economy continued it’s downward spiral and the announcement was made that Progress Energy would pull back 12% of it’s 25% increase due to the economic downturn. So classy of them, it shows their caring side.
Progress Energy is a life sucking leach to already struggling home owners and small business owners in Florida, and it’s the worst kind of leach at the worst time, it hides in the shadows and strikes when everyone is at their weakest point. PE tries to justify it’s actions with useless nuclear power plants that should be the burden of share holders and investors, not the customers they ram every year for ridiculous rate hikes.
Floridians are tired of their blood sucking tactics as you can see in the comments of this St. Petersburg Times article, people want to move out of Florida, people do not understand why Progress Energy gets to be the bs monopoly they are and the Florida Public Service commission that oversees the entire thing is an even bigger joke.
If you take the time to do a Bing search engine search about how many complaints there are about Progress Energy or specifically a Bing search for Progress Energy Sucks will return over 1 million search engine results, think people hate Progress Energy? It’s nice to know I am not the only one that can’t stand Progress Energy and it makes me even happier that there are other blog owners out there like Fire Progress Energy.com that keep you up to date on all the crappy things Progress Energy tries to do throughout the year.
I remember the things my Father said to me as a kid and I remember them well, one of the things my Father assured me was that when it comes to companies like Progress Energy there really isn’t anything that any one person is going to do to stop their actions. He is right of course, doesn’t mean I can’t bitch about it.
What are your thoughts on Progress Energy and yes another ridiculous Progress Energy rate increase in January 2010? Leave a comment and let those fuckers have it, or you can leave a comment and tell me how out of my mind I am and how bad I suck if it makes you feel better about how much Progress Energy sucks.
Don’t forget it’s Hell Week here on Extreme John.com which basically means I have five things to rant about and plan on doing it here, if you want to hang around and see what my next rant is please subscribe to my rss feed or follow me on Twitter.
P.s>> Our home electric bill was $940 last month, last year we never saw an electric bill over $750, unless of course you consider the fact that I have 14 other electric meters for our tanning business. Twelve of those meters attributed to a minimum electric bill of $1,000 per meter in 2008, with the handy dandy price increase I challenge you to do the math… 12 meters x $200 minimum increase per meter based on the last price increase = $28,800 yearly increase for electric, that does not include the corporate office btw. Anyone want to sponsor some solar panels and remove somewhere close to $225,000 from Progress Energy’s fat pockets?

Dude your a f*cking journalist now and you can throw the Pathetic Time Warner right on top of the scum heap. Do you know whats good about these companies they are morons and technology is ready to zap em all. I hate Time Warner used to work for them and I screwed all those big companies as I was deep inside AOL and rr.com but they will be history soon.

Dig down far enough with a pipe and harnass the earth’s energy and sell it back to them
Be good publicity to stick it to the DA MAN LOL
Nice writing and flow
thanks
We don’t have Time Warner anymore, Brighthouse took them over in our area and they aren’t any better. I can only hope your right bro, it’s getting to be a joke.
John… before you went on your rant you should have posted on your new “Comment Form” and explained how to use it… as I have no idea how it works
Hopefully this comment will get through. Did you get rid of CommentLuv too?
Anyhoo… I live in California and my Gas and Electric runs betweem $250 and $300 a month and I thought that was crazy high. Now I feel like I am getting away with something compared to your crazy electric bill… YIKES!
Doug Dillard
John, I take it that there are not competing companies that you can transfer your account to. I would have thought that the States would have a heap of comanies fighting for the energy business.
Oh, this new comment plugin sucks
Maybe when and if I get used to it ;)
That electric bill is obscene! Even in the nastiest Alabama August, my power bill maxes out around $200. Glad you’re giving Progress Energy some well deserved hell!
Yeah Baby! I have Progress Energy here in the mountains of NC but I don’t have tanning beds or much space (440 sf in my cabin believe it or not). That’s the only way (small footprint) I know of to combat ALL the rising costs. If you know someone who needs to get rid of (or sponsor me) in an Airstream, that’s my next step. Glad you followed me.
Susie thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, it looks like you are one step ahead of avoiding the Progress Energy wrath. I love the donkey picture too
Yeah but the sad reality is Progress Energy couldn’t care less about someone giving them hell, you should have the wonderful chance of speaking to their customer service reps. Holy crap is that a nightmare.
No Sire there are zero competing companies, if there were than Progress Energy wouldn’t have over a million people that hate them in Bing search engine results, and I am sure there are way more.
As for the new comment system sucking, I would have to agree in it’s current state I hate it however I will give it time I need to tweak a few things and I need to give it a detailed test run if I am going to review it and share my experience with Echo.
Doug I never expected in a million years to wake up today and see that JS-Kit still has not moved over my comment database, that’s strike one.
Now I plan on doing a full review of Echo which means I have to hang in there a minute, if I do decide to keep it I will write a detailed “How to use JS-Kit Echo”, but I honestly would rather have everyone’s natural and unbiased opinion about it once I do have it completely in place.
Your absolutely right about the Commission, and how they are complete robots serving only the interests of Progress.
Our home is 1500sqft. We have all CFL’s throughout, Air on 84-85 days, 82-84 nights. Our bill last year was always under $100 except in the summer. Our bill is currently over $150 at the least, even after changing our energy habits.. Shouldn’t those of us making an effort to reduce our consumption of energy be rewarded with some kind of grandfathered rate?
Everytime we upgrade a device or reduce our electricity use even further, the little bit we save just goes right back to PE the following year.
I just read in the news that 58,000 families have already left FL from 2008-2009. While that may not seem like that many, it is the largest population decrease in 67 years. The rates will only continue to increase to make up for those loses.
Our next home will be off the grid!
