I was heading home today when I was checking my voice mail and noticed I had a message from Glenn at All American Dog Training Academy. Last week I wrote that Carter and Abe would be going back last week to go through two weeks of crash course training on how to get along. If you will remember they have been having a few good brawls that seemed to be getting worse.
I called Glenn back and he explained to me that Abe and Carter’s fighting was a much larger situation than we initially thought. He went on to tell me that earlier that morning when Abe and Carter were on their way back from their training session Carter attacked Abe again. This time in order to get Carter off of Abe the trainer had to pull Carter’s jaws off of Abe’s leg, and when he went to do this Carter went to snap at Abe much like when I broke them up the week before and Carter’s tooth ended up going through the trainer’s thumb.
Glenn went on to say that Carter and Abe’s fighting could be resolved but that he would have to crush the dog’s mentally to do that and wanted to discuss it with me in detail before going any further. When we finally made the decision to get puppies and we made the decision to get four of them, we wanted the puppies to be happy staying together. Wanting the puppies to stay together is one thing but not wanting to see any of the dogs get hurt is much more important and changing the dogs mentally is not something we want to do either. We want English Bulldogs with the personality they were born to have and I was not about to have Glenn crush the dogs just so they could get along and make me happy at the top of my little fluffy hill.
After my discussion with Glenn I called Lisa and broke the news to her, that we would not be able to keep Carter and Abe. Lisa and I had discussed this before in the event it became a problem and we had already decided that because Carter was the more aggressive of the two and he was doing the attacking that we would have to find him a new home. After talking to Lisa and making sure that was the decision we wanted to go with, I called Brendon and filled him in. This part really sucked because Brendon’s favorite out of the four puppies is Carter. Brendon took the news pretty good or as good as he could for the type of news that it was, I know he understands and thats the most important thing.
Luckily we will still be able to see Carter as often as we want because he wont be going very far, his Aunt Michele didn’t want to see Carter leave the family and neither did Nadia. Carter gets back from his final week of off leash training and behavior training next week when he will go directly to his new home and Big Abe will be coming back home the same day. For a shitty situation at least I can be happy knowing that Carter is going to a kick ass home and we can still spoil the shit out of him.
