I’m not sure how long ago we moved to sunny Florida, Spunky was always best at keeping the who moved where and when numbers. If I were to guess I would say it was probably about 9 years ago when we moved from Patchogue a town on Long Island in New York. Patchogue was a much different place than what it’s like living here in Florida now, soley based on the weather.
I loved living on Long Island, I loved having all four seasons and the chance for snow on Christmas, even though it rarely happend. I can remember trick or treating and exactly how the leaves on Long Island looked and how the crisp air felt as I went house to house, I miss that now. Florida has two seasons, one of them lasts for about 9 1/2 months while the other lasts for 2 1/2 months. It drives me crazy, especially now with having kids, both of which were born in Florida. If it weren’t for a recent vacation to Breckenridge Colorado my daughter and niece would still have no clue what snow felt like, or what a true winter looks like.
Summer in Florida brings the amazingly high humidity and high temperatures that I grow to hate more and more each year, as I try and trick myself into believing “It’s not that bad”. It sucks, I still have yet to sell myself on that concept. Summer on the Gulf Coast of Florida also brings some pretty amazing summer storms, that usually come out of no where when you least expect it. The storms always bring amazing clouds, tremendous cracking thunder and lightning shows that can stop you dead in your tracks while your driving.
First Picture of the storm moving in
We had a summer storm roll in today around 7:45pm, I had originally brought my Sony Cybershot and Sont HD Handycam home to record the bulldogs in the pool over the weekend. Once the thunder started and the sky began to change I decided to grab my video camera and cybershot and head outside to take some pictures and video. I still need to put the video of the storm together which I will share here, I actually shot six different videos as the sky progressed and the storm moved in, so I am interested in seeing how that will turn out once I render it I will post it. Subscribe to my RSS feed or follow me on twitter to be notified when the video of the storm is posted.
Picture taken from about the same angle 5 minutes after the first
Until I post the video, I hope you enjoy these pictures from this Saturday Night Florida Storm, in Palm Harbor. This storm was originally reported as delivering heavy winds, rain, lightning and hail. The only thing we really had in Palm Harbor was the thunder and rain, neither of which were that bad.
This picture was taken 15 minutes from the time the first picture was taken
There are 13 pictures from this storm, if you would like to see the rest please click here.

WOW. Crazy pic’s I only live a few miles from you and you got it a lot worse then i did.
@James the crazy part about it was that as bad as it looked it really wasn’t that bad overall.
:D makes me homesick!!!!
Despite how gloomy and morbid some of those pictures seem, they are truly quite beautiful and majestic aren’t they? Glad you didn’t get the brunt of the storm – looked pretty bad.
Some things in life seem to be a little over the edge, yet seem to entertain us all the same. Well, maybe not entertain everyone, I suppose it takes a special kinda person to find interest in someone elses pains.
Some say: “Madness and Genius are seperated merely by the level of ones success!”
