Seesmic Desktop is probably the most widely used desktop clients for Twitter, tweeting and managing your status updates on Twitter and Facebook from one place. Just about every Twitter user will tell you that one of the best things about tweeting is the ability to send status updates or tweets from your mobile phone to the Twitter network, tweeting on the go makes for some of the best twitter conversations.
There are a few Blackberry applications out there that make it possible to update your Twitter status from your Blackberry smart phone, I have written about a few of the applications here on my blog in the past. Up until about a month ago I was using Uber Twitter to send status updates and tweet pictures to my Twitter feed, now I rely on the Black Ping application for Blackberry. Black Ping utilizes Ping.fm to update all of my status updates on all of my social networking profiles at one time, but the lack of a good picture attachment function has me on the constant look out for another mobile Twitter application for Blackberry.
Enter in the Seesmic for Blacberry application…..
Back in my early stages of Twitter I used Tweet Deck as my desktop client for sending status updates and retweeting my Twitter followers tweets (sounds weird) I quickly made the switch to Seesmic and haven’t looked back since. Imagine my excitement when I heard the news from the Seesmic team that they FINALLLLY had a Seesmic application for Blackberry phones, regardless of how much I like Uber Twitter and Black Ping I still couldn’t wait to try Seesmic.
Seesmic for Blackberry Review
Within the first few minutes of testing out Seesmic for the first time I instantly knew that I hated how long it took to send a tweet with a picture attachment, I also knew that I absolutely hated the “uploading picture” progress wheel. The thing spins and spins and reminds me of a time when I used PC’s and programs would get stuck loading forever, never knowing if what you intended to do will actually get done or not. The picture function needs a progress bar that has a clear display of how far along my upload is, Uber Twitter has it which means it can be done. Seesmic needs to do it.
On a positive note the Seesmic application has a much better overall display than Uber Twitter and Twitter Berry, it’s much easier to read and seems to scroll a little better than the other applications I have tried. I would have to give Seesmic the edge when it comes to display, it’s just easier on the eyes.
Sending tweets and retweeting is simple with Seesmic all though it seems to take a little longer than Uber Twitter and Twitter Berry to actually send the tweet or retweet, that loading wheel comes in to play here too. I don’t like it here either.
Even with some of the additional settings and options that Seesmic for Blackberry has to offer, and even with the nicer display I don’t see myself using Seesmic on a daily basis until the loading wheel is changed and the picture sending feature sends a little faster. Seesmic recently acquired Ping.fm (mentioned earlier) which might lead to a really nice Ping.fm Blackberry application from the Seesmic team, if they can tie Ping.fm in to the mix you can expect to hear me declaring my new found love for the Seesmic application.

Hey nice review, very thorough, but not too long. I am not a big fan of Seesmic either and I wanted to see what other people thought. Thanks for your input.
@JP@Funny Sports, I still plan on using it from time to time to see the changes being made, I think Seesmic for Blackberry is right on the edge. A few changes and it will be perfect, especially if they integrate Ping.fm in the near future.
Thanks for the review and the feedback – we are planning to integrate ping.fm and will keep you posted – will share this with the team – if you have any other feedback, you can review it here: http://feedback.seesmic.com/forums/34249-blackberry – thanks!
@Yama, thank you for taking the time to stop by and comment in regards to my review.
I can’t tell you how happy I am to hear that Ping.fm will be getting integrated, that will be HUGE. Any chance that might be tomorrow? haha. I will continue to test it and I appreciate that your taking some of the points in my post back to the team.
Hey John I have a G1 phone with Android and recently installed Seesmic on it and it works great I love it. I stlll use Tweetdeck on my desktop computer.
@Danny @ Tampa Real Estate, that is VERY exciting to hear I planned on going some time this week to bury the Blackberry and move on to the Droid. Apps being the main reason of course. I will have to give it a try once I get pick it up, thank you for that feedback I was curious about the apps for the two different phones.
@Jimmy, no comments are Do Follow after 3 comments.
@Extreme John,
I like how a person flips out after leaving one comment, demanding that you make it do follow or they leave. That’s one of the reasons I don’t like do follow, it can attract people commenting for the wrong reason.
@Mike @DailyShotOfCoffee, Touche!
@Mike @DailyShotOfCoffee, haha especially when they don’t take the time to read and see that it is Do Follow, but not for the one comment droppers… otherwise known as spammers.
Cool review John. And knowing that you were not paid to do this makes it a more credible one.
It took me about two minutes to realize that Seesmic for Blackberry was crap. The display looks good, but that’s about the only good thing on it.
I never could get the Seesmic app to work on my 8330m, so I still stick to SocialScope and love it!
Keith@Need Information´s last blog ..Why Blog For Business
@Keith@Need Information, I feel you on that. Ive probably tried more apps that don’t work then apps that I actually have installed and do work.
I used Seesmic when I had my Blackberry. Not a fan. I bought the Droid and I must say I like it more than the Blackberry. There was/is a major issue with receiving emails though from POP3 accounts. I stopped receiving all my emails on my phone! Not good when you have a business. Verizon said there will be a software update by the end of January. They better. Nothing beats the Blackberry for email reliability. However, the Droid is easier for social media in my opinion.
@Anthony @ Jumpness, wow that’s a big factor the email being an issue. Makes me want to hold off until February before I get one, thank you for that little piece of information. I couldn’t live without my Blackberry and some of the apps I have on here.
Hi! You have updated the app and now you can enjoy multi-accounts and Ping.fm! :-) Really like to hear your feedback! Thanks!
@Alexandra, now I want to have this ability with Seesmic for Android
The Ping functionality I mean.
It would also be pretty sweet if Seesmic could find a way to share video tweets with all social networking sites.
We have updated Seesmic for BlackBerry and you can now enjoy multi-accounts and Ping.fm. Really like to hear your feedback! Thanks!
@Alexandra, hi. I have moved on to Seesmic for Android now and currently use it as my main mobile Twitter client. I wrote a review for Seesmic Android.
