It’s been a hot minute since I have posted anything from my “Smackable Series“, and the only reason I can come up with is that I haven’t been in many public places lately. Typically being in public places, people watching and doing whatever else seems to expose me to the real winners that belong in a Smackable feature.
The news will usually piss me off or annoy me to the point I would like to write about it, but those rants really don’t fit into my “Smackable” category. I like to reserve Smackable rants for some of the more idiotic people that really piss me off, than I post my opinion (regardless if others agree or not) and let all of you vote on the topic as well.
Like I said earlier I really have not gone to many public places lately, or at least anything that varries from my everyday places of travel. My week usually consists of the same crap that your weeks consist of, the same old daily tasks that you repeat each day. It kicks off on Monday mornings much like everyone else, nothing spectacular… Get up shower, referee some action in the kitchen, check some quick emails, say hi on twitter than sit in traffic on the way to the office. You get the drift.
Aside from the thousands of asshole drivers that grace the streets in Pinellas County every morning, my run in’s with annoying situations that involve strangers are limited. The real special moments and people that cause me to want to flip are usually found on weekends when I am out and about, like the time at Ozona Blue. The Ozona Blue situation was different than most of my smackable experiences which typically me witnessing something that pisses me off, which is exactly what occurred today.
I spent the early part of Saturday with my son, the girls were at the mall shopping for clothes for my son’s graduation which is coming up in a couple of weeks. His school is having some huge “Gala Event”, or at least what seems to be one… the thing is like four hours long. Yes, four hours long and no it’s not High School. I initially planned to go and get a suit for Rerun (no I dont use his real name) as well as myself, but being the huge procrastinator that I am I decided we should go to lunch than head home to teach the dogs how to swim in the pool. Lisa helped me with this decision when she told me that the Graduation wasn’t next week like I thought, which meant extra time to put it off. Way I see it I have like two weeks, or something like that ;)
On the way to lunch we were approaching that oh so typical left hand lane driver doing 25mph in a 45mph zone. This alone is usually something that makes me want to smack someone, I mean let’s face it one of the first things you learn when you start to drive is that the LEFT LANE IS FOR FASTER MOVING TRAFFIC and the RIGHT LANE IS FOR SLOWER MOVING TRAFFIC. There are very few here in this part of Florida that understand that, and even less that actually do it. As annoying as this might be, it is not the premise of my anger or reason to want to smack the lips off of someone.
This edition of Smackable is reserved for the dumb asshole that was not only doing 25mph in a 45mph zone, in the left lane. As we moved to pass the slow moving moron I looked over with my typical “your an asshole” look and realized why they were driving so slow in the left hand lane. Sitting in the passenger seat was a passenger, sitting on that passengers lap was an unrestrained three year old little girl. It pisses me off enough when I see a child not buckled in the back seat, it pisses me off even more when they are in the front passenger seat unrestrained…. it really fu**in kills me when that child is sitting on another adults lap!
As if there aren’t enough innocent children killed each year because they are not restrained by the proper child restraint systems available. A child sitting on someone’s lap in the front seat of a car with no restraint on will be crushed in even the slowest car accident, like this boy who died in an accident while sitting on his Granfathers lap. Something so controllable, so simple and that takes less than one minute to do. Not doing it makes you a moron, doing it makes you a good parent or guardian and it barely takes any movement. It’s called making a good decision, or better yet THINK.
Is your child or any child’s life not worth taking the time to make a good decision by having them use the very things that are proven time and time again to save lives? More sickening to me was the fact that it was a woman in the passenger seat, I will assume papa was in the drivers seat… Did that woman not carry that kid for 9 months and give birth to that child? How could you be such a fuc*in idiot, and beyond irresponsible.
What are your views on this? I know the poll will have a few morons that will choose the opposite from everyone else just to do it, leave a quick comment with your feelings on this. Do you see this in your area, or better yet are you one of those parents that doesn’t think using a child restraint system is a good idea? I would love to hear your comments.
