Stay Dark tan extender and bronzing moisturizer has arrived at all six of our Tampa tanning salons. Those of you that haven’t been following my private label venture or that don’t currently subscribe to my rss feed probably have no idea what I’m talking about here, let’s see if I can get you caught up to speed real quick. Basically, I am the founder of Extreme Tan and Smoothies, a chain of six indoor tanning salons in the #Tampa Florida area. Pinellas County Florida to be exact.
A few months back I grew tired of dealing with one of our vendors and was fortunate enough to be approached by another vendor with a private label deal that I was able to take seriously, a private label deal that would offer our customers better value and added savings. I truly feel that private labeling our own exclusive indoor tanning lotions allows us to put six years of customer and associate feedback to good use, not to mention it gives us more control over the products we carry.
Now that everyone is just about up to speed I can show you the new Stay Dark tan extender by Extreme Tan and Smoothies, the product was delivered to all six of our Tampa tanning salons (Tampa Bay) on Friday. Once I get through some of my Monday morning stuff I will get a follow up on the initial sales figures and overall customer reaction to our new bronzing tan extender.

Hi John.. about time somebody makes a good tanning lotion that just plain works. I am tired of seeing marketing and ninjas and flower power all over products in salons. You can cut costs down a lot by just keeping the packaging simpler, as you have done, and have a good product. Kudos to you and good luck with the private label venture.

Thank you Aaron I appreciate that. One of our main focus’s here is to reduce the cost so we can pass the savings on to our customers, it’s something we worked very hard over the years to do, even with major brands. Only difference is that I am growing tired of the major brand rules and the service levels that come along with dealing with those larger companies.
Are you selling these online too? Maybe even internationally? Money!

That’s actually a great question Anthony. We currently have the Extreme Tan and Smoothies online store in testing, once the testing process is finished we will be rolling out an affiliate program in order to release the product worldwide.

I like the name, “Stay Dark”. How did you pick that (or did you already cover that?). For some reason it reminds me of the Dos Equis commercial of the most incredible man in the world, and I think his closing line is “stay thirst, my friend.” Anyway, sorry to ramble… and again, good luck with the new line!

Hi John, interesting post. I would also be interested to hear how you came up with the name “Stay Dark” as its interesting to hear how people create names for their brands. Some people think about it quite a lot whilst others simply pick a functaional one, a “does what it says on the tin” brand name! Yours seem to have more thought behind it though.

I love the quality of the print and design onthe bottles. Packaging has improved so much over the last decade.
I so need some of this, my tan fades practically the minute I step off the plane.
Loving the the branding used on these labels! Will check out private label deals near me as they sound like the way to go.
