Strikeforce: Frank Shamrock vs Nick Diaz Predictions and Results

by Extreme John on April 10, 2009 |

It seems like over the last two weeks I have been writing about MMA and Mixed Martial Arts topics more often than usual, I couldn’t be happier about it either. Yesterday I wrote my Ultimate Fighter 9 Week 2 Review piece for MMA Punk.com which featured a round by round and blow by blow account of what went on during Ultimate Fighter US vs UK.

My week has been no less busy than usual which kept me tied down from getting my predictions for tomorrow night’s first Strikeforce MMA event which will premier on Showtime at 10pm est. The main event is going to be a banger featuring Frank Shamrock vs Nick Diaz, this fight could easily turn into one of the MMA fights of the year. Nick Diaz and Frank Shamrock are both big talkers, Nick Diaz has more of that “punk” mentality, but don’t let that fool you this punk can throw down. Frank Shamrock is an MMA Legend who has victories over some of the most recognized fighters in MMA History.

Strikeforce: Shamrock vs Diaz predictions

Frank Shamrock (23-9-2) vs Nick Diaz (16-7)
Ahhh here it is, after all of the hype and playful banter it’s actually time for Nick Diaz and Frank Shamrock to get in the cage and fight. As you can see by this Nick Diaz interview and this Frank Shamrock Interview (below) there is no love lost between either one of these fighters. Nick Diaz is an excellent fighter, he is also the king of pitter patt punching which is great for scoring points on score cards. Nick Diaz will need to do more than pitter patt punch Frank Shamrock, as Frank showed us in the Cung Li Fight he can get cracked and keep on fighting, Cung Li did not hit him with pitter patt anything. Another important factor in this fight is that frank is not a pitter patt puncher by any means, Diaz is known for cutting easy and Shamrock is known for hitting extremly hard, both factors can be huge in this fight. Again I go with what I WANT to see…… Frank Shamrock knocking out Nick Diaz in devestating fashion, it would be the best thing that could happen to Nick Diaz and his carreer not to mention it would put a huge smile on my face in hopes that maybe Diaz will grow up a little bit. My pick Frank Shamrock.

Brett Rogers (8-0) vs Abongo Humphrey (12-0) – Brett Rogers is probably the more “known” fighter of the two in this bout, Rogers can bang out on his feet…. As can Abongo, I do feel however that Abongo has a more well rounded fight game and will have enough to beat Rogers. Abongo Humphrey is my pick.

Brett “The Grim” Rogers wins by brutal KO

Cris Cyborg (6-1) vs Hitomi Akano (14-5) – Ahh it’s time for the ladies to get in the ring and slap each other around for a few rounds of MMA. Cris “Cyborg” Santos is a wrecking machine amongst female mma fighters, as you can see in this Cris Cyborg video she can throw down. Hitomi has the experience in this one and many will say that Cyborg has never been tested, she will be tested tomorrow night by Hitomi. Even with the difference in experience and Cyborg’s lack of being challenged, my pick for this fight is Cris Cyborg.

Scott Smith (14-5) vs Benji Radach (19-4) – This is going to be a tough one for me because as you know I typically bet with my heart as opposed to the best odds, thats just me. I have fun with it, this fight is a scary one and as much as I like Scott Smith and will watch ANY fight he is in I just wouldn’t count on him winning this fight. Benji Radach would be my pick money pick however being a Scott Smith fan he’s my pick for this fight.

Gilbert Melendez (14-2) vs Rodrigo Damm (8-2) – My pick Gilbert Melendez

John, I went to a cage fighting event that was held locally here last Friday night. Jason Dent, from this season’s TUF was there, because he lives near Cleveland and had a fighter participating. Actually he had two. One won and one lost. Pretty cool. He had a cast on his hand, so we weren’t sure if that was from TUF or not.
