I was just sitting here getting ready to begin a new future article that features a face off between Krispy Kremes and Dunkin Donuts when I realized I hadn’t finished my Sunday Smash post and Sunday is quickly arriving. By arriving I mean it’s 8:36pm on Saturday night and I still needed to add my #followfriday love to the post as well as edit the graphic for the article (which I am terrible at). Basically I need to get this thing done, it never pays to put things off but I am great at it.
I am quickly starting to realize just how hardcore some online bloggers really are, between all of the social networking sites, social bookmarking sites and the new addiction to twitter there is so much to know. I am also realizing just how little I really know about blogs or being a blog writer, I write and post stuff here as a way to vent or get the word out about things. I am hardly the professional blogger or the guy that makes a ton of cash from writing a blog, I make zero dollars from writing this blog or any blog for that matter (dumb). Basically I can’t promise that my information about these tools is actually the information you want or will be any good to you.
In this week’s Sunday Smash I wanted to review one of the newer Twitter Managers titled Seesmic, which is the Twitter Manager that I am currently using and have been testing for the last couple of weeks. I made the switch from Tweet Deck to Seesmic when a good friend of mine @shotofcoffee made me aware that Seesmic existed and had a version for MAC. You can check out Mike’s Coffee Review Blog at Daily Shot of Coffee. Thanks Mike.
Twitter Manager Review: Seesmic
Platform: PC/MAC
Supports: Twitter and Facebook
The main reason I was excited to test Seesmic was that I was having numerous lag issues and “not responding” errors for Tweet Deck for Mac. If I ran Tweet Deck for a few hours at a time it would begin to drag the entire system down until the point it would simply crash and I would have to “force quit” the program. Don’t get me wrong I loved the functionality and look of Tweet Deck which also supports Facebook, I just couldn’t stand the constant re-launch of the program.
Now let’s get down to tweeting, re-tweeting, multiple accounts and responding to direct messages with Seesmic. I have been testing Seesmic on my Windows XP Office PC as well as my MacBook pro, I use my MacBrook Pro about 10x more daily than my PC, which might be important for those of you using PC’s to note.
Seesmic seems to be an excellent Twitter Manager that just about fits my needs perfectly, it has multiple twitter account management, support for columns, and a nice feature that allows you to create a “Friends” list, which Tweet Deck also allows you to do. Seesmic has yet to crash or lag either my PC or my Mac in the time I have been using it and I leave it running for days on my office pc as well as on my MacBook Pro. Seesmic also keeps your list of followers accurate which Tweet Deck failed to do, meaning if I unfollowed someone for some reason it would not remove them from the list of people I am following shown inside Tweet Deck.
One of the features that either does not work correctly for whatever reason in Seesmic that I would really like to see change is the option to delete direct messages from within the program, Tweet Deck did that successfully. I would actually like to see Seesmic not only fix the issue with not being able to delete direct messages from within the software, I would like to also see them add a selection tool so you can delete direct messages you have replied to in bulk. I hate using twitter to delete messages because it’s extremely slow, since Seesmic does not complete the deletion process it forces me to login to twitter to delete messages… At a much slower pace.
I will continue to use Seesmic as my main twitter tool moving forward because even with the direct message delete function not working it is a much better trade off than the software crashing or lagging down my system. If you do not use a Twitter Manager I suggest you give Seesmic a shot, it makes re-tweeting messages and replying to messages much faster, it also allows you to follow those “special” twitter people in a specific column so you never miss their tweets. This is extremely helpful if you have 500 twitter followers or more, you know it can get pretty hectic managing all of those tweets. If you have a Twitter Manager that you prefer to use or would recommend please leave a comment with the name and the link of the manager that you use.
Now on to my favorite part of the Sunday Smash, it’s the time when I mention a few of the tweeps I follow, as well as #FollowFriday recommendations. I also use this time to post a few quick thank you messages to the tweeps that were nice enough to recommend me on #FollowFriday. If you would like your blog, twitter page or twitter message mentioned in a future Sunday Smash it’s simple, either leave a comment, re-tweet a few of my articles during the week, recommend me on #FollowFriday or just follow me on twitter and say hi.
My Re-Tweet Review:
As the twitter craze starts to settle in a little bit more now it’s no secret that there are a tremendous amount of people on twitter who just want a ton of twitter followers. There are also people on twitter that actually stay active with it and become an active part of the twitter community, this makes much more sense to me. One way of connecting with twitter followers is by re-tweeting their tweets that you might have found interesting, it is a nice way to show appreciation for someone else’s work as well as begin building a network. If you are looking to get more twitter followers and not focused on actually generating traffic, partnerships or even simple networking than chances are you never re-tweet messages that your tweeps post.
The twitter users that never re-tweet and don’t stay active probably would not appreciate my advice to re-tweet messages, it’s a simple easy way to attract followers who might actually engage in conversation with you. For those tweeps out there that do re-tweet twitter messages and specifically those tweeps that follow me on twitter I would like to say thank you, here is a short list of a few twitter users that were nice enough to re-tweet messages for me over the past week. All though I really can’t possibly post and remember everyone that re-tweeted my articles, I think it is important to re-tweet and I appreciate the fact that you are nice enough to re-tweet me.
Before I list a few people I do want to say a special thanks to everyone that re-tweeted my guest post article about the senseless murder of Sheri Weiss Coleman and her two young sons while they slept. As I mentioned in a previous article, those re-tweet’s have helped the family that has been tragically effected by this nightmare. Twitter can be a useful tool if it is used for some good once and while, and not just as a tool to generate business leads and traffic.
