The Duggar Family

Ok holy crap and a wtf while I am at it. I just finished watching back to back episodes of this show called The Duggar Family, and I feel like I just walked out of a twilight zone.

The Duggar Family is a family that is featured in the TLC reality show “18 Kids and Counting“, which is currently being shown in it’s 3rd season constantly on TLC, seriously it’s always on. See the TV schedule for 18 Kids and Counting here. I knew that the minute I even mentioned this show that just about everyone here would be running out and switching to TLC in hopes of seeing this giant family of 18.

I am just curious at this point if any of you have really realised what the shows title is and what I have written more than one, HELLO the friggin Duggar Family has 18 KIDS! 18! What is even more amazing than the fact that they have 18 kids is the fact that they are still “counting”, which means they actually plan on having more?

Listen I try to be a good patient guy to the best of my ability, which typically sucks beyond all recognition, and even with trying to the best of my ability it can be tough having even one child. I could not for the life of me even attempt to imagine what it would be like to have eighteen kids, feed eighteen kids, put clothes on eighteen kids or do anything with eighteen kids.

That is exactly what I found myself doing when I turned on the TV tonight on the lanai, TLC was already on which was most likely due to someone in the house watching Jon and Kate Plus 8, or John and Kate Split 8, or… Yeah I could probably go all day, so it’s best I move on. Anyway I found myself simply blown away at every aspect of the thought of having eighteen kids, what it would be like when they drive, or better yet what it would be like if each of the kids decide to have large familes and spit out 5 kids each you would be looking at SIXTY GRAND CHILDREN.

Due to years of being in business for myself and working at multiple positions in managment when I worked for Home Depot, I now think of everything in numbers or convert the situation to a conversation about the cost. I picture 60 grand kids and I think, “Holy shit Christmas has got to be a bitch.”

60 Grandchildren x $5 per kid (which is not realistic) = $300

Now unlike most reality tv show the one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was the lack of drama, the lack of constant screaming and yelling like Jon and Kate. The parents as well as the kids in the Duggar Family have an amazing level of respect for each other, they speak to each other with giant smiles and laughter.

We all know there really aren’t any reality TV shows that you would want your kids to watch or be interested in, unless of course that is you want the constant Hannah Montana screaming and theatrics every time you ask them to do something. I wouldn’t say I really would go as far as to recommend kicking back with your kids and watching The Duggar Family, but I will say it’s much more wholesome than some of the crap I have seen on Disney lately.

Do you think you would be cut out to have 18 kids? Leave a comment and let’s see how many of you would be cut out for having 18 kids.

We have 2 boys and that is tough enough. 18 would be ridiculous! I can’t even really imagine one morning of getting up and getting everyone ready for school. Seriously… it is really unimaginable in my mind.

I think that’s really where I found myself, I can’t imagine any of it. As if it’s not even real, and they are all HAPPY as can be too, the parents right down to the kids all talk to each other in such a kind way I feel like someone is jabbing me in the ear with a fork.

oh listen to doug! haha and yesterday this is what he said at his blog, “sitting by pool blogging watching kids swim” life is so hard hahaha!

18 kids would be insane I don’t even have one. to be honest I’m not even sure if I want any yet. I’m almost 30 too!

But i am most likely to have some if I want to keep my woman.

I never watched this show ever!

Brian… the pool is the one place I can let my boys go and get their energy out in this hot weather. My boys are 6 & 9 and MANIACS most of the time :)

@Brian there was a time in my life I really didn’t picture having any kids, I would have missed out on some pretty amazing things had I made that decision.

Now, there is no chance in hell I would ever want 18 kids, I don’t have the skillz.

@Doug yeah two boys at those ages have to be pretty energetic, I know my son was a maniac until just recently. Now it’s all about being “cool” and the girls of course.

My wife makes me watch that show. They are in another world if you ask me. Did you see the episode where the kid who has engaged was not even allowed to hold his fiancees hand or even be alone with her until they were married….very startge…but very entertaining!

@The Tycoon Blogger oh without a doubt I think they are in another world, but I do have to say I have a tremendous level of respect for the way they handle situations with the kids and each other, certainly different than any other reality TV show. IMO.

@The Gooroo Exactly! It baffles me.

Really turned off!

Unbelievable regarding the hypocracy of acting so righteous – regarding “the episode where the kid who has engaged was not even allowed to hold his fiancees hand or even be alone with her until they were married” while at the same time their parents are humping like dogs claiming that it is not their choice! There comes a time when this kind of behavior should be incredibly embarrassing to their children – maybe the parents need to practice abstinence instead of doing the deed and then claiming they had nothing to do with it – and barely being able to wait until one child is born before they do what they do to make another!!! Really nasty – try to control yourselves!!!

Some people want that kind of life, not me. I think two kids is enough and that’s only so there is one to entertain the other. Right now I just have one and he expects me to entertain him all the time. If I had a choice I’d shoot myself in the head before taking on 18 kids and counting.

Have you seen their friends. The other family also has around 18 kids. I couldn’t imagine having 18 kids. I think the happy medium is around 1 to 3 kids. Greg

@Christina I am with you, two is more than enough for me.

@Greg I haven’t seen enough episodes to see the friends yet, so there is like 3 families that occupy an entire town? haha

The Duggar’s amaze on every episode. They are just calm & relaxed. Their kids never act and even help each other out??? Their kids never argue!!!?? I wish! What did I do wrong w/ our 2 kids..LOL!

No arguing make them sound like a made-up family. I could stand a few more kids if they really acted like that in real life.

But, really, I would not take any amount of money for the two I have. And I would not give a nickel for any more. My two are plenty. Plus it’s college time!

“Did you see the episode where the kid who has engaged was not even allowed to hold his fiancees hand or even be alone with her until they were married”

u won’t see Josh and Anna hold hands or kiss on camera cuz it would be against josh’s parents family views about abstaining from any contact but i bet u soon as the camera’s aren’t around they were probably all over each other. i remember that episode and the sound guy or the camera guy asked anna when josh was in the bathroom how come they don’t kiss or hold hands. even the couples friend asked that and anna went all beat red and said i can’t comment on that as if she was embarrassed to say they did more then what they were suppose to do b4 they got married.

ppl have to remember too Mikey’s from OCC said on one of there shows stuff shot on TLC takes 3 months if u add the time of shooting, on the editing room floor and the final product b4 we the views see it and a lot of stuff u see is either edited or scripted for ratings. prime example Michelle had the 19th kid back in december and it’s only been the past 2 to 3 maybe months that we are actually seeing video footage that was shot way back in december/january. josie’s been fully home from the hospital for the past few months now.
