The Slacker is Back

by Extreme John on October 21, 2009 |

I very rarely do these middle of the afternoon blog posts unless we have something being released in regards to our tanning salon business or limousine business, my overwhelming guilt made me jump on here and give you an idea of what I have been up to. You know explain my reason for slackin’.

It’s getting near the end of October and Halloween is just around the corner which in turn means that the holiday season isn’t much further away either, this is one of my busiest times of year. Even though tanning and limousine “seasons” haven’t kicked into full effect yet.

One of my main positions in both of our business’s is marketing and advertising, I have a passion for it and I love the challenges of going head to head with other business’s in the tanning salon industry. In the limousine business it’s a little different because you work more as a team with your surrounding limousine companies, it’s a great way to put the customer in the limo that’s right for their event. There are a few cool tanning salon owners in the area that are cool, most I don’t really pay much attention to until they make me.

Anyway, I could probably turn this into some long ass blog post about each and every aspect of the tanning business as well as the limousine business and I’m sure everyone has better things to do than read this for the rest of the day.

This is the time of year when I setup our ad strategies for the next three months for Extreme Tan and Smoothies, we do some creative things to offer added value for our customers as well as generate business moving into the heart of tanning season. In addition to putting together all of the specials I also personally put together all of the supporting Extreme Tan and Smoothies Blog posts and data sheets for the salons.

While in the throws of putting together the specials for the holiday season and our Blackout Tanning Event, I also put together our daily specials from October through February of 2010 in addition to the blog posts that support and market those daily tanning specials. Oh yeah, we also received our first indoor tanning lotion shipment for the 2010 tanning season for each of our six locations. I was involved in every product price sign and the entire distribution process and pricing structures that needed to be in place for the lotions to hit the tanning salons.

I also wrote each blog post announcing the new tanning lotions on our indoor tanning blog, here are a few of the blog posts about new tanning lotions.

New 2010 Indoor Tanning Lotions

We also released to Spray Tanning Specials

We also began posting our Tanning Lotion Reviews

There’s probably a few hundred other things that I could include in the list above and really drag the whining and excuse making out, instead I have a few things to get done so that I can get back on the streets and return some comments. I also intend on getting our New Years promo work done before the day ends, as you can see I have another busy one ahead of me and it’s already 3pm, I have been going at it since around 7am only 3hrs after I went to sleep last night. I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!

On a side note and before I get out of here, can someone PPPPPLLLLLEEEAAASSEEEE send some cold weather in my direction, I really am sick of the heat and the nice “teaser” cold front we had for three days was really a joy.

Blogging Tip of the Day:

As your blog or network of blogs begins to grow it’s important to link within your own domains and articles like I did in the post above. Linking to posts on my Google Page Rank 2 tanning blog from my Google Page Rank 4 blog like Extreme John.com and my Google PR 5 indoor tanning forum it increases link popularity on your targeted keywords.

In closing…..

No more games, I’ma change what you call rage
Tear this motherfucking roof off like two dogs caged
I was playing in the beginning, the mood all changed

I have a serious weakness for that Eminem song, find it very motivating and helps me keep typing.

Good to know you’re staying busy and not sleeping at the office like usual.

On a side note, if you’re keeping up that kind of work ethic, I’m feeling the need to kick it up a notch or two. Taking it old school.

OK, dude, you want cold weather. No problem. I’ll send all this sh*t from Cleveland down your way, bro.

That clip from “8 Mile” was awesome! Once in a while, I’ll toss that DVD in and watch the battle at the end. Great scene.

I need to get an update done today.

It’s always interesting to hear about how much planning, concern and hard work go into making anything successful. It was neat to hear about the cooperation in the limo industry vs. what sounds like fairly intense competition in the tanning industry; setting up daily specials as far ahead as February 2010 is something I wouldn’t have expected – that does seem a while away.

Thanks for this post, good luck with all the work!

@ashok, I like to have our marketing plans and stategies ready to go in advance, we also make sure that our marketing campaigns can be changed within a weeks notice in the event we have a competitor that tries something funny. We have put a lot of time and energy into the structure of Extreme Tan and Smoothies, Inc.

The tanning market is a little different than the limo market, at first every limo company in town hated us because we put a billboard up. Than people realized that we would be more than happy to work together, in the tanning industry around here it’s safe to say every salon owner with the exception of maybe one or two hates everything about Extreme, and you can add me to their list of things they hate too.

Thats just the nature of the beast I guest.

@Ms. Freeman, if it were up to me we would be planned a year out, Im pretty aggressive like that and I have done my homework on the tanning industry.

One of the #1 things that I will never forget about getting into the indoor tanning industry was how everyone that I spoke to said that tanning season went from February – June in this area. Not something that sat well with me at all.

Our first year I made the mistake of “waiting on season”, I don’t wait for seasons anymore. I make seasons, which is where all of the additional planning comes in to play. In addition to that, we ALWAYS have something going on at Extreme Tan and Smoothies, ALWAYS. With 6 locations and a home office if we don’t plan things out, there could potentially be 50 associates running around with no idea of whats suppose to be going on.

This might be a good time to have yourself cloned.;)

Really, it sounds like what “break” you got in the off-season is just about over. I hope you are in game shape. Just keep imagining the sound of cash registers ringing. That should make it just a little less tiring!

And thanks for the seo lesson. I sometimes get lazy with my internal linking. It’s nice to see it done right.

@Dave Doolin, I would look at areas like “page views” interlinking and doing so in the same window will increase pageviews within your blog tremendously. I have written about it before actually.

Reply

Dave Doolin October 25, 2009 at 9:03 pm

@Extreme John, Yeah, I need to do more of it. I tell other people they need to do it, then neglect to do it myself.

That’s one good reason for templates: you can enforce structured linking, at least for some articles.
