Google+ is the newest of the big social networks. The site has been live for about a year, but it became incredibly popular very quickly, and it continues to grow.
While it is a newer site, there are many people who have been spending a lot of time on Google+. There are many who are already expert and advanced users, and you may well be one of those folks. If you aren’t you can be; the following advanced tips can help you become an advanced user. Additionally, if you are an advanced user already, these tips can help you to learn something new and use this great social network even more proficiently.
Bookmark Posts on Google+
Your Google+ stream can get a bit noisy, especially if you follow a lot of active users. You can’t really follow or bookmark, but you can create a special circle with a clever name like “Bookmarks” where you can put things that you would want to bookmark.
In this new circle, don’t add anyone. Instead, when you see a post that you want to go back to later, elect to share the posts with your Bookmarks circle. When you want to go back to these posts, go to your Bookmarks circle and view the stream to see all of your saved posts.
Use Keyboard Shortcuts
Advanced users love keyboard shortcuts because it allows them to be faster and more productive. Google+ users who are experts appreciate that the popular social sites has keyboard shortcuts available. The following are some shortcuts you can try:
- Pressing “K” lets you go up one post at a time
- “J” lets you scroll down one post at a time
- “Q” moves you page up or down to see people in chat
- “Tab” then “Enter” will submit a comment
- “Spacebar” lets you scroll down through your stream
- “Shift” + “Spacebar” lets you scroll up in your stream
- Hitting “Return” after selecting a post will open a comment box
Control your Public Image
Beyond using circles to be sure that your mom or your boss doesn’t see the crazy post about what you did at a party last night, you can have ultimate control over how people see your profile on an individual level. If you input a username, you can then edit your profile in a special way. That way you can change how that person sees your profile.
Keep Track of your Stats
Google+ Statistics is a tool that allows you to track statistics on your Google + account. You can keep track of how many people have you in their circles and where you rank in overall user popularity, among other things.
To use Google+ Statistics, you simply need to sign up and connect your Google account. There you can also get other Google+ information that isn’t as personal and you can get widgets for promoting your Google+ account on your site.
Make your Text More Exciting
With Google+ you can make font changes, and not fancy or involved HTML is involved. You can strikethrough text or write in boldface or italics. To do so, put the following characters before and after any word or phrase you want to show up on your stream in a special font.
- For bold, you want to put an asterisk (*)on both sides of something you may want to appear in bold.
- For italics, you will want to put an underscore (_) on both sides of the word or phrase to be italicized.
- For strikethrough, place a dash (-) on both sides of whatever it is that you want the strikethrough to go through.

I’m pretty new on google+ but hopefully these tricks come in handy. I like that you can customize what specific people can see on your profile. I don’t post anything crazy on there, but it might be a good idea to still limit what friends and fellow marketers see.

Thanks for these tips. I’m pretty new to Google Plus and other than signing up, haven’t done much with it since.

These tips are really helpful in building a strong online brand through Google+.
Thank you for the tips about G+. I know some people are using it to get traffic but I’m just not sure I have time for another social network to keep track of. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it’s worth the time?
