Here I am kicking out the very odd Tuesday night blog post out of nowhere and there are probably a few of you that are wondering what the special occasion is, especially because it’s not some last minute rant about a terrible home builder or some shady Yellow Book employee. [break]
Wow that’s pretty sweet I started writing this at 7pm for a scheduled 9pm release to close the night out, it’s now 9:30pm and you can see just how far I really got with this post. Needless to say now this has thrown my entire night off by a couple of hours which means I need to make up some time, I would like to introduce you all to the new family pet “Turtle”.
Turtle is a 12 week old Senegal Parrot that we received from the very good folks at Pet Safari in Clearwater Florida, Dave from the Pet Safari was nice enough to personally deliver Turtle to our home along with a box of anything and everything Turtle would need, not to mention a cage that fits perfectly into the crib.
Turtle rocks it on the Lappie which is tuned into Seesmic
Hand fed Senegals make extraordinary pets, and are known for being comical and entertaining. They are colorful, relatively small, and have the ability to talk and mimic, although they tend to be considerably more quiet than many other parrot species. Most well socialized Senegals have very friendly personalities, but potential owners should be aware that Senegals have a tendency to become “one person” birds, and may not desire interaction with other family members.

Alright I doubt half of you even made it this far into the post and it’s now 10:10pm, isn’t it amazing how quickly two hours can be lost? Hopefully Turtle will be skilled enough to pull of a few crazy videos in the future, for now Turtle just gets a picture with a quick introduction. P.s Turtle is named after Turtle from the HBO hit series Entourage.

This makes me wish I had a pet as a kid. A god friend of mine had a parrot and even though he was far from this good it was always really fun when he said a few words. How long does a Senegal Parrot live?

I would imagine it goes hand in hand with a companion.

I had a parrot at my relatives house almost 7-8 yrs ago..I always used to put finger in his cage and he/she always use to bite my finger so badly that I used to cry a lot that time..I love Dogs very much..

@Typhoon, thats pretty common for birds especially because most people are nervous about putting their fingers near a bird in the first place. Birds sense that and actually find it funny, you have to go at them with the thought, “bite me I don’t care”.

Thats amazing .. I am not into birds as pets but I do have a 2 gold fish which I have kept besides my pc.. It was a gift from my friend..It has been three months now, I have to say I am quite attached to it..

Turtle looks like a lot of fun.
Do you know how to train him to do those tricks? I bet there’s a course to learn. Maybe you could buy it through the stupid twitter ad guy’s affiliate link?
I wonder how much time commitment is involved in training as parrot.

That bird is like the three-year old I’ve been watching this past year. He’ll pick up and say just about anything you let him hear. So be careful
. It’s a good thing you’ve got such a large family there. The older they are(kids) the easier it’ll be for him to get comfortable. Houlio was great with my mother right up until she was pregnant. Then he hated her and was only good with my father. I wasn’t able to touch hm until I was close to my twenties. Birds are almost always one person birds. Don’t be surprised if that happens/happend with Turtle;)

@eSINess, Turtle hates the kids but it’s mainly because they approach him like they are going to smash him. He’s awesome with everyone else, even guests but he’s young still.
My father tried to have him(Houlio) climb on my arm when I turned 10 and I was terrified, but I put my arm down there(ground) and he took a little nip, giggled, then bit my a**. I hope you guys keep him long term. They’ll grow on you two(Lisa) and the kids. One day you’ll all be cool with him. If he’s already chill with the guest your FAR ahead of Houlio. He was cool with anyone who could resemble my dad. Cousins and Uncles that’s it. I think its time for a some new videos JB. Turtle needs the spotlight;)

@eSINess, Hulio was also a different kind of bird Senegals are known for being pretty cool for the most part. You remember the scar on my arm it’s from a bird just like Hullio, I got attacked while I was in Cancun.
Love the senagal parrots, quieter than most parrots and make wonderful pets.
