Über Twitter for Blackberry Review

by Extreme John on June 6, 2009 |

Chances are if you are a Blackberry owner and your addicted to Twitter like I am, you probably use Twitter Berry as your Twitter app. Twitter Berry is a pretty solid application that allows you to handle some of the more basic Twitter functions.

I recently wrote a blog post titled “Nightmare on 275“, in that blog post I posted a picture of yours truly while inside of the Insane Limos Pink Hummer Limo. The picture is important in this story because my initial goal was to take a picture and post it to my Twitter account.

Uber Twitter Blackberry Review

As I sat in the backseat of the limo I rifled through my phone to take that stupid picture and had no luck, Twitter Berry wouldn’t allow me to post a picture right to my Twitter account, Twit Pic was being a royal pain in my ass, Photobucket took forever for the picture to upload and when it finally uploaded it was the wrong f*cking picture. My last resort was to post it to my Facebook account than grab the “share this” link code from there and post it on my Twitter account, that didn’t work either. The picture was also a dumb ass looking picture that I really didn’t want posted to my Facebook account, and once posted it prompted plenty of stupid comments ;) Why couldn’t this just be easy?

I tweeted my frustration with the project I had been working on, I know it can’t be that hard I have seen celebrities post pictures right from ther cell phone to Twitter. If they could figure it out it really couldn’t possibly be that tough. I ended up never getting a chance to post the picture to my Twitter account, however something good did come of the experience.

UBER TWITTER REVIEW UPDATE:
Uber Twitter 3 review posted

Someone responded to my Tweet in regards to my frustration, the message was less than 140 characters and simple. It read something along the lines of “Why not just try Über Twitter?”, I thought I had the person that tweeted the message saved in a notepad file so I could properly thank them here and I can’t seem to locate it. If you happen to read this, thank you for sending me the info for Über Twitter. In any case I have been using Über Twitter for a while now and I think it’s about time I posted a Über Twitter Review.

Über Twitter Review
Twitter APP: Blackberry Curve

Update Twitter Status
Exactly what it says and it’s nice and quick, perfect for Tweeting at a red light or lickity split. Better yet you can “Take Picture” in the Update Twitter Status view, it instantly goes to the camera view, saves the picture after you take it and returns you back to Update Your Status where you can post the picture right to your Twitter account. By far one of the best features for Twitter users that have Blackberry phones.

Refresh Tweets
Even though Uber Twitter stays fresh with tweets from the people you follow on Twitter, you can use the “Refresh” to make sure you have theeee latest tweets.

View Replies (example @extremejohn)
This is an excellent feature and one that Twitter Berry lacked as well, if I am in a hurry and I don’t feel like looking through 100 tweets to see if there is anything specific that was sent to me I can click View Replies and I can see who ReTweeted my messages or simply replied to me on Twitter.

Read Direct Messages
Not a feature I really use due to the fact that I don’t really use my Twitter Direct Messages for important communication purposes, I save reading those for when I am logged into Seesmic. Regardless it’s there if you want it.

View tweet
This is actually more packed with info than you would think, you can easily View a Tweet with your Blackberry cell phone and when you do it with Über Twitter it gives you all kinds of information. You can see when someone started Tweeting, their Bio, location and how many Twitter followers someone has. Perfect when your bored waiting for your other half to get done shopping at the mall while you sit on a bench lookin like a beat down moron.

Reply
I love this feature with Über Twitter, when selected it bring you to the Update Status screen and automatically includes the @user that you are replying to on Twitter, I always hated typing it in manually when I wanted to reply before.

ReTweet
Another clutch feature of Über Twitter is the ability to ReTweet someone’s message quickly and easily, you know as well as I do that you don’t ever feel like retyping a retweet.

Direct Message
Can’t wait to tell your friend you did something dirty the night before but don’t feel like posting it for the entire Twitter world to see? Than your set with Über Twitter which allows you to send Direct Messages of all of your dirty deeds, and the not so dirty ones too.

Make Favorite
You can select a specific tweet and make it a favorite for viewing at a later time, this is a handy feature for when someone Tweets something important and you want to give it a detailed look at another time.

More Über Twitter Features and Options

Everyone Near You
This allows you to view the location of twitter users near you that you follow, keep in mind this information is based on the nearest cell phone tower to the user, or the Twitter tool they are using. This is also an option for users using Über Twitter on their Blackberry phones as it allows you to show your location based on the nearest cell phone tower.

Video
You can embed videos right into your Twitter updates with Über Twitter.

Trending Topics
It’s so close to the real thing at this point that your probably chomping at the bit to download Über Twitter, but hang in there I am almost done. You can check the latest Trending Topics on Twitter from your Blackberry as well.

Search
Yes you can search Twitter as well.

My Timeline
You can view your own personal timeline on Twitter, this is perfect in the event you get smashed and your not sure what you might have tweeted before jumping in the sack the night before. No need to wait until you get home, check your timeline right from your Blackberry.

It really is a no brainer for me, when it comes to the Twitter Tools that I choose to use I need something that works quickly and doesn’t lag down my cell phone or my Mac. Über Twitter gives me the ability to post pictures like this tweet that I posted from Uber Twitter on my Blackberry phone.

@Hidden Brains without a doubt the Blackberry is a very powerful smart phone, integrating Uber Twitter with your Blackberry phone makes sending tweets, replying to tweets and sending picture tweets with your Blackberry easy.

When you use uber twitter there will be notifications that are beside the title ubertwitter when u scroll down to it, how do you get rid of that number?

Reply

Extreme John August 23, 2009 at 3:14 pm

@Grace @gracef723, that number is a the number of unviewed tweets that you have in your time line.

This number increases very quickly if you have update notifications or you keep your Uber Twitter connected. You will need to scroll through all of the msgs in your time line (up) in order to have that number return to zero or not be displayed.

I no longer stay connected to Uber Twitter that way at best I have to scroll through a few messages in order to see the current tweets.

Just an FYI: Everyone I know (myself included) who has an iPhone has trouble viewing pics from UberTwitter users. I usually don’t even bother to try to look at pics from UberTwitter anymore. If I can get it to show up at all, it takes FOREVER, the pic is SMALL and there are ads on the page. UberTwitter may rock if you’re the user, but it’s the bottom of the barrel if you’re not.

I love uberTwitter, but since I change my Blackberry to 9700 Bold, it stopped updating my Facebook status. It used to work perfect. I reinstalled all application many times but no difference. Has anyone else faced problem like that?

Recently started using Ubertwitter and really like it. However, it seems to drain my battery in a couple of hours. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it only a problem on the Storm or is there some clever little trick that will stop it doing this?

Reply

Anonymous March 22, 2010 at 7:46 am

@Kat, I agree. UT drains the battery faster than 5 apps running together! . Switched th OPen Beak and have that problem solved. That was the only reason i stopped using UT. otherwise UT interface is neat. Opean Beak offers all the functionlity. (Not tried posting pics but)

BatteryDrainedBerry March 4, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Kat,

I’m wondering if UT is the cause of my drained battery too. I have a BB Curve 8320 and every since I’ve added it I can’t hold a charge for a full 1/2 day. Before that I didn’t have to charge for 4-5 days with heavy use.

I’m about to delete it now…I hope this is what’s wrong. It’s pissing me off in the middle of updating FB or Twitter and I get a black screen and have to do a battery pull and plug it into a charging source to get it working again…WTH????

@BatteryDrainedBerry, yes. Ubber twitter is very heavy on the batterry. Drains so fast. I use Open Beak as my twitter client and it is quite light on the phone.

I have been using Blackberry phones for the past five years and nothing has been able to top the Blackberry Bold 9700 for me.

With the launch of Twitter, I soon became addicted and the various applications available to me on my Blackberry have been a god send!
