UFC 100 Predictions Lesnar vs Mir

by Extreme John on June 29, 2009 |

Load up the hammer, cock that bitch back and get ready for the big boys to slap the shit out of each other for the Heavyweight Title in the main, main, main event of the historic UFC 100. As July 11th grows closer I am finding it hard for me to contain myself, I am excited that UFC 100 is not actually here yet because I have not completed all three of my UFC 100 predictions yet. If you missed my UFC 100 Predictions Henderson vs Bisping or my predictions for UFC 100 St. Pierre vs Alves you can check them out there, I will have one more post left which is my UFC 100 Predictions and Recap.

UFC 100

Who do you think will win @ UFC 100? Lesnar or Mir?

In this Frank Mir UFC 100 pre-fight interview video it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise when I say Mir sounds confident and cocky as ever, which is probably a good thing for him. Frank Mir was being brutalized in their first UFC fight when out of nowhere he capitalized on an ankle lock forcing Brock Lesnar to tap out.

Brock Lesnar is a freak of nature, the guy is a monster and everyone knows it… including Frank Mir. Frank Mir does not have a chance in the world if he plans on standing there and trading shots with Brock Lesnar, all though Mir does have knockout power. If Frank Mir were to fight from the outside he would have to do so from way outside where he could utilize leg strikes to slow down Lesnar, that is no easy task due to Lesnar’s explosive and very quick speed.

The next issue in the stand up game for Frank Mir to deal with is not only his speed, but his devastating power which he has no problem displaying. If I were Frank Mir’s doctor, my orders would be “Don’t let Lesnar hit you… Please, please don’t let Lesnar hit you.”, if Mir stands with Lesnar and trades punches he has a heavyweight punchers chance of knocking Lesnar out, however he stands a very good chance of not remembering his walk to the ring at UFC 100.

Dana White Interview discussing UFC 100 and Brock Lesnar

Frank Mir is a submission monster on the ground and as he proved in his first UFC fight with Lesnar, if you give Frank Mir a chance to grab something and make you tap he will do it, he’s done it in previous UFC fights as well. Brcok Lesnar would never want to be in a bottom position against Frank Mir, in that situation I feel Mir would climb all over Lesnar before grabbing a limb and making him tap out. This does not seem like an easy task for Frank Mir either, taking Brock Lesnar down will be more than tough, he is a world class wrestler and weighs easily 50lbs more than Mir.

This is a tough fight for me to pick based on the fact that I always want the underdog and Frank Mir is the underdog in this fight, regardless of his first win over Brock Lesnar. I am also on the side that feels that Brock Lesnars sheer size, power and athletic ability will just be too much for Frank Mir. I also have a tremendous amount of respect for the fact that Frank Mir could break your arm with ease, you can not over look Frank Mir’s accomplishments and abilities in mixed martial arts, neither can Brock Lesnar. This poll shows that the majority of the people are picking Brock Lesnar to retain his title at UFC 100, underdogs pay out and I feel like picking the “David”. My pick for UFC 100 Lesnar vs Mir is Frank Mir by submission. See UFC Live results here.

Um, yeah… this fight boils down to a hammer and a sledge hammer. Yeah, both guys will derail the shit out of you while pounding in every part of your body. However, I cannot overlook the size difference between these two heavyweights or can i…? Lets go back to this last Saturday at the Ultimate Chaos where Bobby Lashley slammed a gorilla of a man bob sapp and than got on top and started pounding him like a free hooker on the street until he tapped… Yes I said tapped. 340 pounds of sheer man and you tap from getting punched??? Lets not overlook the fact that Bob Sapp used to box too. Now lets put two and two together… A gorilla of a man who used to box and comes out with the same approach of running straight at you with a flury of fists most likely bigger than brock lesnars. Now lets look at the outcome… three seperate tapouts before the ref noticed and not a single submission… hmmm perhaps bigger is not better in all situations…

Anyways, back to the fight. In my eyes, while Frank Mir might be one hell of a jui jitsu specialist and great at submissions, Brock Lesnar is a all american wrestler with a college record of like 116-7 or something and about 50 pounds more of muscle. Therefore, I believe this match (despite their last meeting) is all about Brock. His ability to concave your face in with one punch speaks legends itself and if this were to go to the ground, unless Mir is on top, the only vivid detail I can perceive right now is those devastating hammer punches that Randy witnessed from Brock in UFC 91. Yeah, I remember that night very well and if you have never seen a bobble head laying down before, go check out youtube and witness what Randy Coutures brain must have felt like after hammer fist after hammer fist after hammer fist… 8-O

Dude, Brock is still a rookie MMA fighter, as far as I’m concerned. Mir is seasoned. Winner – Mir by submission. I couldn’t agree more.

@The Constant Complainer I have an entire article coming up about my feelings about Brock Lesnar, well maybe not an entire post but it will certainly be included in my UFC 100 Results and Review post.
