UFC 100 Predictions St Pierre vs Alves

by Extreme John on June 28, 2009 |

Another day closer to UFC 100 which means another day of me adding a new UFC 100 Predictions post, if your looking for UFC 100 Predictions Henderson vs Bisping you can find them there. I also noted in that UFC 100 Predictions article that I would be placing a new article up each day leading up to my UFC 100 Preview article where I will have a complete UFC 100 recap of my predictions, opinions and betting odds for UFC 100.

Up next in my predictions for UFC 100 is a fight that I am extremely excited about between George “Rush” St. Pierre and Thiago “Pitbull” Alves for the title. In my opinion this is one of the most interesting fights that George St. Peirre has been in, in a long time. St. Pierre has been more than dominate in his most recent mixed martial arts outings, as has “The Pitbull” Alves, I also believe this is one of St. Pierre’s toughest opponents in a long time.

There is no doubt that George St. Pierre is at the top of the mixed martial arts food chain, however I also feel that if anyone can beat St. Pierre at this point in time Alves might very well be that fighter. Alves is a “Pitbull” he attacks in brutal fashion and attacks often, St. Pierre has fought some amazing fighters however it’s been a long time since he has faced a ferocious opponent like Thiago Alves.

Who do you think will win @ UFC 100? St. Pierre or Alves?

Thiago Alves has one major advantage in this fight, it’s the fact that he’s from a different breed of fighter that will strike without regret and strike dangerously with every strike thrown. If Alves utilizes his best ability which is his ferocity I believe Thiago Alves can walk away with the belt and probably in a fashion that might look easy to some. If St. Pierre can manage to keep Thiago Alves away from him and strike from a distance he can than begin to pick apart Alves with his speed and conditioning, in addition to the above St. Pierre would also benefit from this fight staying very close and on the ground where he can smother Alves and utilize ground and pound or submissions.

UFC 100 Short Trailer: Henderson vs Bisping, St. Pierre vs Alves, Mir vs Lesner

If Thiago Alves allows St. Pierre to control the pace of the fight and he fails to bring the same bad intentions into this fight that he has brought into his previous fights, St. Pierre will climb all over him. In my opinion Thiago Alves has a very small area of percentage where he can capitalize, he needs to use that area and use it quickly and in a violent way if he is going to win this fight. My prediction is for Thiago Alves, the guy is brutal and exciting to watch how can I not pick him to win.

Ah, John another great match-up between two heavy handed welterweights. Matter a fact, perhaps the top two welterweights in the world. Thiago is a beast for his size while GSP is an all around elite fighter. Thiago has definitely earned his reputation as being a “pitbull” through his flurries of punches and knees on opponents and constant devastating pressure. If GSP does not find a way to put a muzzle on Thiago, I believe this pitbull will give GSP a run for his money. However, with GSP training regimen, most likely, the champion will be ready for any bone thrown his way.

Now for my pick… I believe if the bout goes the distance, I think GSP will eat up Thiago with his urijah faber like conditioning. On the other hand, if there is to be a knockout, most likely it will be a re-run of Matt Serra opening a can of whoop ass on GSP for Thiago. Who am I to speak though… I am just another junkie MMA fan waiting for an epic fight card!

Mm. This is a tough one. Both men are great fighters, but Alves is called a “Pit bull” for a reason and when it comes to pit bulls and other dogs fighting pit bulls usually come out on top. My bet is that Alves doesn’t let St. Pierre make it to the third round and takes the victory. We’ll see.

This is gonna be one tough fight i think, Thiago Alves is most definately brutal, and i think he has a chance, but i still gotta go with St Pierre on this even after watching the UFC 100 promo vid again, Alves’s kicks are damn fast!

I can’t stop reliving the Matt Serra beatdown that he put on GSP. LOL. Classic.

My vote in this one is for Alves.

@The Constant Complainer yeah I only wish that Serra had the same outcome the second time they fought, St. Pierre owned Serra in the second UFC fight.
