Now that I am finally getting over some of the rediculous things that went on during UFC 100 I should get on the move here and post my UFC 101 Predictions and Betting odds.
Coming off of a huge event and the first ever UFC Fan Expo the UFC has another pretty hot fight card on deck for UFC 101 Florian vs Penn, which will be available live on pay per view on August 8, 2009. UFC 101 also features a co-main event bout that I am very fired up about between Forrest Griffin and Anderson Silva, which I feel could very easily be the fight of the night at UFC 101.

BJ Penn (-200) vs Kenn Florian (+160)
Here we are at the Main Event for UFC 101 Florian vs BJ Penn for the lightweight title, “The Prodigy” BJ Penn is of course the current UFC Lightweight Champion and Kenny “KenFlo” Florian is hoping to rip that title belt from Penn’s grip.
I really hope that for BJ Penn’s sake and for the sake of all the UFC fans that will be buying the pay per view that BJ Penn has been working hard on his conditioning and training like a maniac, if he isn’t Florian will destroy him. I would imagine that there are a few fans of the cry baby BJ Penn that will rush to his aid and defend his talents, I am not questioning his talents at all. There is no doubt that BJ Penn has some amazing abilities and mixed martial arts skills, but he is notorious for under conditioning which results in his poor cardio in the later rounds.
Kenny Florian will prove to be a very tough challenger for Penn to deal with, Florian has excellent Jiu-Jitsu skills and some of the nastiest elbows ever seen in a UFC Octagon. Kenny Florian has ripped through just about every single one of his opponents thus far, and seems more than confident about his up coming bout with BJ Penn. I am picking Kenny Florian to win the Lightweight Title from BJ Penn at UFC 101 in Philly, as long as Florian doesn’t make any stupid mistakes or get too confident I believe his aggressive nature will simply be too much for BJ Penn, especially if it goes all five rounds. Anderson Silva -350 vs Forrest Griffin +250
As you can see by the betting odds for this fight just about everyone on the planet, or at least the majority of gamblers and mixed martial arts fans feel that Anderson Silva should have a walk in the park against Forrest Griffin in the co-main event on the UFC 101 fight card.
Regardless of what the MMA world thinks or what the gamblers out there think, when it comes to UFC 101 I will be picking Forrest Griffin to win. Plenty of people will say I am out of my mind and thats fine, there is no doubt that Anderson Silva is one of the most powerful and brutal strikers in the game today. Forrest Griffin will do something very different from what Silva’s opponent at UFC 97 did, Griffin will get into a fight with Anderson Silva and force Silva to fight back, which is something that Thales Leites failed to do when he was involved in the UFC 97 snooze fest with Silva.
Even with Forrest pressing the fight and forcing Silva to exchange he has to be very careful not to make any mistakes, like I said above Anderson Silva is a devastating striker with instant knockout ability. I will be picking Forrest Griffin based on the fact that I like underdogs to begin with and also based on the fact that Anderson Silva hasn’t done anything in recent fights to impress me. Man Id love to see Forest kick some ass, love that guy. And Id also like to see Penn hit the ground hard.
@Nate Wouldn’t be a bad thing seeing BJ take a Bisping type of beating.
I too would like to see Griffin win. Silva will not fight unless engaged (in my opinion). I hope Griffin will do just that and then some. I’d like to see Florian win. I think Penn has seen his better day.
Although I love Forrest Griffin’s heart and dedication to the sport, I believe that his constant movements forward might cost him a short night. Grant it Griffin has a chin of steel, (with the exception of what Evans chin music handed him), but if we recall UFN 14, when Anderson was debuting at 205, he gave James Irvin one of the nastiest knockouts in a long time. Seeing that James likes to aproach and get into a slugfest as well, Forrest might have to come with a slightly different game plan or he might fall victim to one of those nasty knockouts as well. With that said, I wont dare compare James Irvin to Forrest, but the concept behind my logic speaks for itself to some degree. Either way, I think this will be one of Anderson’s toughest challenges in a while. Forrest will come out like the energizer bunny and if Anderson does not bring his competitive edge back to the cage, he might be witnessing his first loss in a long time. His nine fight streak might be on the line here fight fans… Will he make it ten in a row or no???
Also, we must remember, some fighters bring the best out of opponents. I believe that both fighters will bring out the best of each other and I am definitely going to agree with John that this might be the fight of the night. I am psyched and cant wait!!!

@Brendan Crawford I agree Forrest’ biggest strength could be the very thing that gets him catching up on sleepy time. It is also important to note though that Forrest Griffin is not James Erving.

Here’s an easy way to remember that Machida beat Penn: not only has Lyoto Machida never lost a fight in the UFC, he’s never lost a single round.

Machida didn’t fight Penn in the UFC. However, Machida hasn’t lost any professional MMA matches at all.
Since this is not a title fight, I think forrest has a chance at a decision win. I love both these guys and want both to win. But Forrest is huge. And if he can just take silva down and hold him down, he can pull off a decision since its only 3 rounds. Henderson almost did it, but got caught in a choke. Now I don’t want to see Forrest hold him down for 3 rounds, but I think it is a sure way he can get a win over silva. But I really want to see a slugfest and no doubt, someone will get knocked out if they go that route.

I’m going with Silva just by a hair, I think Forest is a beast, but Anderson is so cerebral. Anderson will have a run for his money but if he can keep it standing he’ll take it, if it gets to the ground Forest has very underestimated BJJ but Anderson is comprable on the ground as well. @MMA Link I ended up missing the countdown last night and really prefer to make my picks after seeing the training, not sure why it’s not like they show the guys hanging around doing nothing. Since when does Anderson not do anything? He is an artist on his feet, if they opponents do not engage he will not force a knockout. Machida is like that aswell. But when opponents do get aggressive they seem to have a hard time making past the second round. Griffin cannot stand up with Anderson, No brawler can. Anderson is too much of a technician and will strike fast and accurate. I see a wrestler type fight where Forrest tries to hold down silva all 3 rounds and punch his kidneys. As for Penn and Ken, Im going with Florian with tko via ground and pound, those are some nasty elbows.
