@Thom Interesting conversation here. I agree that UFC has gone too much in the direction of pro-wrestling for my liking. But, showboating in a fight has a long tradition in boxing & MMA, and is quite different than pro-wrestling behavior.

Silva's "showboating" reminded me of Roy Jones Jr or Muhammed Ali. Hands down, barely moving to evade punches, and countering with devastating accuracy. It was so effective that Griffin couldn't touch him.

To me showboating in the cage is just showing off skills in an unorthodox way. Different than Lesnar's post-fight interview WWE antics. I don't mind the showboating when the fighter has the skills, but I could do without the out-of-the-cage drama.

Griffin/Silva was one of the most unique fights I've ever seen. It wasn't a "good" fight, but it was memorable. I've never seen anyone embarrassed in a fight like that, especially in the pros. The punch that took him down and ended the fight didn't even knock him out, but he'd had enough. If there isn't already a textbook for "getting inside your opponent's head," Anderson Silva should write one. I love watching Griffin fight, and I hope he recovers from this.

@ShaunJudy no doubt GSP is for real, he has an injury now so he will be doing some recovery for the moment anyway. As for Forrest... frown

@J.C it seems like your in the same boat as me on most of the fights, the Amir fight was really no biggie to me I need to see him fight more and interview less before I jump on the Amir train. However the stoppage was rough for sure.

@Hard Rocking South African I can't say that I think the Forrest fight has any bearing on my thoughts about the talent in the UFC, it's the UFC period.

The best talent BY FAR AND BAR NONE is in the UFC, it's almost to a point with the other horse and pony shows that even considering the other fight leagues a threat is ridiculous.

@Thom I agree the show boatin crap is a little much, but you need a villian in everything and MMA is no different. I just long for the day that Silva does that and has his head kicked in.

What-up brother ? John, just as I said on the MMA Punk blog Silva is a force to be reckoned with, big time , but... The "show-boat-en" crap has to stop ! MMA didn't make it where it is today by acting "unprofessional" in or out of the cage !!! Made me sick to my stomach too ! Undeniable skill is possessed by Silva and Lesnar but don't bring that WWF mentality to the most respected fighting in sports today ! It's gonna turn into a circus if someone doesn't come along FAST and kick both their asses . The problem being , WHO !! I'm not comparing skill levels of Silva & Lesnar , it's the "show-boat-en ,just to clarify ! Peace brother and can't wait til next time ! ! !

Silva/Griffin was definitely an eye-opening fight.. Although - without taking anything away from Silva as an amazing fighter - it did cause me to question the quality of competition in the UFC.. Forrest didn't deserve to be in the cage with Anderson Silva, he was slow, clumsy and almost an embarrassment to the sport..
I was picking him to perhaps pull an upset, I admit, but the man was horrbily outclassed
