UFC 105 Predictions

by Extreme John on October 26, 2009 |

I had a few extra minutes and decided I would put together my UFC 105 Predictions now so that I have plenty of time to listen and respond to morons like “Rico” who commented on my UFC 104 Predictions, don’t worry I’m confident Rico will be in here shooting off his mouth too. It’s amazing to me just how fuckin stupid people can get when reading and commenting on someone’s blog, ummmmm hello shit head it’s MY BLOG and I post my predictions, not yours.

At what point did someone name Rico head UFC Predictions god to the point that others aren’t allowed to have their own UFC fight predictions or opinions? Haha classic jack ass. Anyway let’s get back to the business at hand which will be the UFC 105 fight card and my predictions for the fights on the card that seem most interesting to me. Before I make my UFC 105 predictions I want to remind everyone that I make my picks based on my own personal views, hopefully that disclaimer will help the morons like Rico out with any confusion.

UFC 105 Betting Odds

Randy Couture -140 vs. Brandon Vera +110
Mike Swick -215 vs. Dan Hardy +175
Denis Kang -145 vs. Michael Bisping +115
Matt Brown -157 vs. James Wilks +135
Aaron Riley -245 vs. Ross Pearson +195

UFC 105 Predictions
All though my UFC predictions show betting line I do not base my predictions on the betting line or odds.

Randy Couture -140 vs. Brandon Vera +110 – Man this fight sucks for me to pick because I like both fighters. How can I not go with “The Natural” Randy Couture in this bout, his accomplishments in MMA over shadow Brandon “The Truth” Vera’s in a HUGE way. Vera does have youth on his side, but as Randy has shown for years his age doesn’t seem to be of concern at this point at least. My prediction Randy Couture.

Mike Swick -215 vs. Dan Hardy +175 – Wow another bitch of a fight for me to pick, many of you may not know but we my one business Extreme Tan and Smoothies was a major sponsor for Mike Swick in his fight against Joe Riggs, watch the fight video our logo is on his ass. Mike Swick won that fight and has since done an interview for us over on our MMA blog MMA Punk.

Dan Hardy is a beast which makes picking this fight a tough one, I typically make my predictions based on who I want to win not who I actually think will win. In this case I can’t go against my boy Mike “Quick” Swick, my prediction Mike Swick.

Denis Kang -145 vs. Michael Bisping +115 – As much as I can’t stand Michael Bisping I feel pretty good about the redemption via brutal KO by Dan Henderson, I see Bisping bounding back in this fight. My prediction Michael “The Count” Bisping.

Matt Brown -157 vs. James Wilks +135 – If nothing else and I really couldn’t are less who wins this fight I just want to see Matt Brown be as “ferocious”, the guy carries himself like a monster. I wouldn’t mind seeing him deliver on it in this fight. My prediction Matt Brown.

Aaron Riley -245 vs. Ross Pearson +195 – Ross Pearson is another guy I wouldn’t mind seeing actually deliver on brutalizing someone, my prediction Ross Pearson.

Overall this should be a pretty entertaining fight card, I will have a UFC 105 review posted which is something I didn’t manage to get done for UFC 104. Check out MMA Punk’s UFC 104 Results and Review. This card sucks a bit.. Well, maybe that’s a little harsh, it doesn’t suck, but it’s certainly one of the worst UFC cards in recent memory.. And after that decision at 104 this weekend, I’m really feeling a little “bleuh!” about the UFC at the moment..
That said, I agree with all your picks except, maybe, Couture/Vera.. Couture looks to be slowing down and while losses to Nog and Lesnar are hardly anything to be ashamed of, I do worry about his ability to complete his current 6-fight contract.. Though, trying to imagine Couture losing 3 fights in a row is also not exactly easy.. Aaarrgh! I’m on the fence with that one

@Hard Rocking South African@Music Judge, without a doubt I would hate to see Randy lose 3 straight fights, that would suck and this could very well be the time for that to happen.

I will say that a lot of these “not-so-great” cards usually deliver an excellent night of fights. The one thing I hate is no tittle fight as the main event, I personally think main events should be title matches. Just my opinion.

Rico must have been in for a rude awakening after bettin on Shogun, . Can’t believe Shogun got raped lol, that’s sports.

@sangalicious1,
“Raped”? I think you mean “robbed” There was no rape-age in that fight, great fight from beggining to end, with a shoddy decision.. Further proof that title fights should be even longer

Okay I don’t know some of the fighters from this card but I will still make my prediction.

Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera
I think Randy will win this one but I’m a Filipino so I will pick Vera. It’s about time Vera start his own era.

Mike Swick vs. Dan Hardy
I’ll go with Mike though Dan is a hard striker, I still think Swick will prevail.

Denis Kang vs. Michael Bisping
Bisping it is because I never heard of Kang and I think Michael just got his game plan screwed up on his fight with Dan.

Matt Brown vs. James Wilks
I’ll pick Matt Brown…just because of his name.

Aaron Riley vs. Ross Pearson
Let’s try Aaron here.

@Extreme John,

I’ve watched some Swick’s fight and he can unload those barrage of punches within seconds and you’ll never know what hit you.

But he should be more careful with Hardy because Hardy is a brawler and will throw haymakers in no time too.

John, after all the hype on the main event of UFC 104, I would say Couture and Vera have some major shoes to fill. With that said, this card is going to be great. As much as I would love to seem Michael Bisping get his mouth tapered shut again, unfortunately I am with you on that decision. I think he has learned his lesson of talkin the talkin, but not walkin the walkin on an eligible opponent.

Also, in regards to UFC 106, I am not sure if you heard, but Lesnar has dropped out due to illness, and Griffith vs Tito fight has been decided as the replacement. I was anticipating the fight between these two mammoths, but now we have to wait til 108 on Jan 2… I dunno if I can wait that long! Ahhh that DAMN H1N1 Flu!

Extreme John October 27, 2009 at 1:05 pm

@B Crawford, I hate the idea of Tito vs Griffin being the main event, I hate when main events are not title fights period. It pisses me off, especially on pay per view events.

Lesnar is afraid Carwin’s gonna pound him out. 8-O

I can’t believe Randy is still fighting, he is a great fighter but is past his prime, his age continues to put him at a disadvantage.

@Dragon Blogger, I’m not sold that Randy is done yet, I believe in those elite gifted sports athletes like Cal Ripken Jr., Mike Tyson (minus the games), and so on and so on.

I guess I wouldn’t mind seeing Randy fight until he’s 55 as long has he’s winning and not getting hurt.

Heath Tieger October 27, 2009 at 4:55 am

I think Vera has much better skill, and will try to kick the legs out from under Randy. But, once randy gets holf of Vera, it should be all over. Randy is used to taking guys down that are 60 pounds bigger than Vera, so take-downs should come easy. Also, having nothing to do with this UFC – Why the he** is Gray Maynard fighting Nate Diaz ??? Maynard gets no respect, and has walked all over every top 10 light-weight he has fought. Diaz will get taken down as easy as I put down a pint of beer… I think the UFC is hoping Maynard gets caught in a triangle, because they fear Maynard being the champ. Maynard I believe can beat everyone in the division, with the exception of Penn -

Extreme John October 27, 2009 at 1:02 pm

@Heath Tieger, you have a really good point in regards to Vera’s leg kicks those fu***** are rough and Randy certainly doesn’t have the legs of a spring chicken.

However the takedowns play into this fight in a big way, not that Vera lacks ground game.

As for the Maynard situation it makes no sense to me why he would be fighting Diaz next it’s silly, has anyone even come close to hurting the guy once?

When I say “raped” I meant the Shogun got robbed like you said Hard Rockin South African. It was such poor judging that ‘s why I said “raped”

@sangalicious1, are you a professional fight judge now too?

Reply

ZXT October 28, 2009 at 8:39 am

I’ve read some articles and some point of views and I personally think Shogun didn’t get robbed. Even though in the eyes of many that Shogun looked like he won, the fight was close enough that it could be anybody’s fight.

Dana said he gave 2 and 3 to Machida and 4 and 5 to Shogun. He said round 1 can be anybody’s round but he gave it to Shogun.

Does anyone agree with me that Kang is being put in front of Bisbing to make the UK fans happy ? He is the posterboy for MMA in the UK – personally, I like him, and I think he has very good skills – unfortunatly, he will never be a top 5 middle weight. With Anderson, Nate, Hederson, Belfort, Maia, maybe even Sonnen after his last fight, dont see a huge future for Bisbing – will always be a top 10 in weight class though.

Extreme John November 8, 2009 at 9:35 pm

@Heath Tieger, hey Heath thanks for taking the time to comment I usually respond much faster but somehow missed commenting on this post.

I have been saying the same thing about the UFC’s love for Bispeng, only difference is I don’t like him. Always felt he was too arrogant for me.

Franzyboy November 4, 2009 at 12:58 pm

Couture v Vera
This one is really hard to predict. If Vera can make this fight a stand-up fight and can move out of couture’s grasp, he will be winning this one. but that will be easier said than done. Couture’s game plan is to wrestle..knowing couture, most probably the fight will go this way.

Swick v Hardy
Swick has more polished skills than Hardy.

Bisping v Kang
This fight will be a display of what Bisping can really do. He has fought fights with top class fighters and look good. the fight with Hendo is just messed up. This fight will surely get him back on track.

Extreme John November 8, 2009 at 9:46 pm

this is my predictions for ufc 105 “just putting it out their”
vera
swick
kang
brown
pearson
i also believe main events should have a title on the line , but thats just how i roll  ,and as for shogun man he was robbed big time.

Reply

Extreme John November 8, 2009 at 9:48 pm

@madra mor, nothing wrong with wanting to roll with Title fights as main events.

Bisbings’ head look like its on a flag pole when he throwes a punch. I dont care how fast the dude is, if’n he puts his chin up like that agains a solid puncher, his jaw gonna get jacked over and over. I think his future in the UFC is limited at best.

Reply

Extreme John November 9, 2009 at 2:01 am

@tony, you might be my favorite commentor of the day with a comment like that. I think the UFC learned a valuable lesson about Bispeng when he fought Hendo, he is no where near as good as they make him out to be.

If he loses on Saturday he will be one step closer to begging Strikeforce for a job.

Reply

tony November 9, 2009 at 10:26 am

Couture vs. Vera,

You gotta go with Randy, The dude is strong as a horse….great core strength. Sure his speed is down now that he is my age, but take it from me, the last thing you loose with age is strength! I used to arm wrestle professionally, and I can still put away much bigger guys. Its all about tendon strength, balance, technique, and will to win. I see Couture snatching Vera’s soul from him late in round two, then i see him rag-dolling the much weaker Vera in round three, with Vera presenting his chicken like neck for a rear naked way out of the fight!

Extreme John November 9, 2009 at 4:12 pm

@tony, hey Tony thanks for commenting, thats probably one of the funnier predictions I have read in a while. More importantly it’s one that could very well be dead on.
