UFC 106 Predictions

UFC 106 Predictions

I was really looking forward to being much more excited about writing my UFC 106 Predictions, but the sad fact is that the excitement just isn’t what it would have been if I weren’t seeing Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin as the UFC 106 main event. If I were writing about the original main event bout I would be more excited about Carwin vs Lesnar, not only are they not fighting on this card but now Brock Lesnar is out of UFC 108 with mono.

No sense crying about the main event change at UFC 106, even though the main event between Ortiz and Griffin is not a title fight it will still be an entertaining fight if nothing else, I wouldn’t expect to see Griffin running from the ring like he did when he was mentally crushed by Anderson Silva (UFC 101 Review).

UFC 106 Fight Poster Ortiz vs Griffin

My UFC 106 Predictions

Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin

Ortiz won the first fight between these two, or at least on paper he did. I can’t really say that I am confident picking either one of these fighters to be honest with you, the last interview I saw with Forrest he acted like he was on crack and Tito, well he hasn’t done anything impressive in years. Unless of course you include having the biggest mouth while having no fights bit that he seems to be king of, now he has to fight…. I hope.

Griffin failed to do anything against Anderson Silva in UFC 101 and I had never been more confident with how a fighter seemed to be preparing for a fight, Forrest seemed ready if nothing else to fight and force Anderson to fight. As everyone knows at this point, he didn’t force Anderson to do anything but embarrass him. My UFC 106 prediction is Forrest Griffin, how much fuel could Tito possibly have in his tank after not fighting for the last 10 years.

UFC 106 Ortiz vs Griffin Trailer

Josh Koscheck vs Anthony Johnson

This fight is going to be bad ass, I will even go as far as to say it’s most likely going to be your fight of the night. Anthony Johnson is a monster and Koscheck has been fighting what seems like every other month and doing a pretty damn good job at winning. This is another tough tough fight to call, even with Koscheck’s excellent improvement in striking and his excellent wrestling ability I just don’t see him being able to handle Johnson’s size. My UFC 106 prediction Anthony Johnson.

Phil Baroni vs Amir Sadollah

My first thought is…. “Does anyone really care to see this fight?” I guess someone wants to which means  might as well get down to it. I’m from New York, my prediction is for Baroni.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs Luiz Cane

Cane is a beast…. Nog is a legend… Nog also looked excellent in his fight against Randy Couture, my UFC 106 prediction Nog.

Dustin Hazelett vs Karo Parisyan

Sweet here’s another fight I could’nt care less about seeing, sorry I’m just not a big Karo Parisyan fan and Hazelett hardly excites me as well. For the sake of getting my UFC predictions in, my prediction is Karo Paisyan.

I will go against your pick and pick the bad boy from long beach.

I like Josh to win but Rumble Johnson is too big for him.

I’d go with Nog too but don’t you think he looks like 10 years older than his age?

I’d go with Karo and Baroni too because they’re both good and I don’t know their opponents.

@ZXT, Nog looks like an ancient figure but the guy clearly can still get down, he proved that in his win over Randy. The battle of the oldies.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Koz win also, so many people hate the guy but I have always liked him for some odd reason.

Cane is actually fighting Little Nog, who never went up against Randy.
Easy mistake…

Tito VS Forest – Tito would have to win in order to make a come-back, but I just dont see it happening. Close to the same stlyes, but forrest will have tons of gas in his tank, and tito will slow down after a few minutes – Forrest to win.
Also think A Johnson will KO Kos, L Cane to win by decision, Baroni BY KO in the 1st minute of the fight. Would love to see Karo lose – dont like him at all, but he should pull this one out. Want to see him fight someone like A Johnson and get knocked out cold

@Heath Tieger,

You really think Tito is going to run out of gas? Tito always comes into it in great shape, but I have to agree Forest for the win..

@Alex@Seamaster Omega Watch, if Tito is forced to stand he will def. run out of gas and if he ends up on the bottom it will be even worse.

Tito needs to get on top and work his ground and pound or his tank will deplete quickly, it has in the past and now he’s older and hasn’t fought in way too long.

He did run out of gas;)

@Heath Tieger, I love the idea of watching Karo get smashed, one can only hope.

Thats a very good point in regards to Nog, and a mistake on my part. It wouldn’t have changed my prediction though I’m hard headed like that. As for Tito I would have to agree with you, the comeback stops here.

I can’t even imagine what kind of loser still even uses that word. Hop back on your skateboard Skippy, hit a quick ollie on the way home and realize I have been watching MMA since the very first UFC. I haven’t missed 1 single event in the last 5 years, PPV or free TV and I have been to numerous MMA events… Ride the rail or whatever you skaters call it.

@Extreme John, All that time watching mma and you thought big nog was fighting cane? He aint even in the same weight class. Pathetic that you even put in your 2 cents on fights, when you dont even know the right opponent.

Reply

@kev, it was an oversight. Start putting your predictions on line for each and every single event and see if you ever make a mistake.

THAN when others can judge your ass send me a link and we will stop by to check out how perfect you are.

Why bother reading a UFC Predcitions post if you can’t even muster up the ability to predict some fights, thats pathetic.

This is a must win for Forest , that’s my opinion. Actually both fighters, where will they go from here with a lose. Karo Pariysank’s jujitsu is so sick. Amir and Baroni is a gonna be a very intrestin match up. Josh Koschek’s world class ground game along with his greatly improved standup Vs Johnson’s dynamite hands are gonna make it one heck of a fight!

Reply

Extreme John November 16, 2009 at 10:28 pm

@sangalicious1, if nothing else Forrest better fight in this bitch, unlike last time or that fan base that loves him so might start to get tired of his funny jokes.

I for one always love to see Tito get his ass beat. Why was he the longest raining champion at this weight? He never fought “anyone”.

I also thing that Stikeforce is more compelling that UFC these days. They have Fedor after all. Dana White is getting on my nerves.

Your opening line killed me  and I would have to agree, especially for this fight with Forrest.

Strikeforce has yet to really excite me, Fedor still hasn’t fired me up yet either. The last couple of UFC cards were stale, I think that will change with UFC 107 when we get back to championship main events.

What’s up, dude! I always look forward to your UFC predictions.

You know, I was very disappointed with Griffin’s performance against Silva. I truly believed that Forrest would come at Anderson and we’d get to finally see what Silva would do if aggressively challenged. But instead, Forrest gives up following a punch that I could have executed better.

Ortiz hasn’t fought anyone and I thought he looked like a cocky prick when they interviewed him during UFC 105.

Let’s go Forrest.

I think Anthony Johnson will walk over Josh. Josh got one chance and it is if he gets it to the ground. I doubt he will make it and he might even be stupid enough to try it standing. Anthony Johnson winner by TKO in round 2.

@Johan@UFC odds, I would have to agree I think if Josh stands he is making a big mistake. He does have some much improved hands now though, and he seems to have a lot more confidence in them.

His hands can play a key roll in setting up the takedown, where he is a real threat.

i think this is a pretty good card myself. rumble is good but i wouldn’t be surprised to see Josh get it to the ground and own johnson from there. but im goin for RUMBLE! Tito and forest 2 is a fight i wanted to see after there first fight (just not as the main event). i still dont see forest winning, and i have to go with tito just because jenna jameson helped me through puberty lol. i see lil nog as a win for cane to get him up the ladder. and i care less bout karo other than to see him get ko’d but will prob go to decision. but on the nice side we get another free ufc with the ultimate fighter final. and see kimbo vs houston, which should be an entertaining fight at least.

@RICO, hey lookie lookie here the preemie is back.

Couldn’t stay away could ya? haha

Unlike you, I am not easily predictable. How about this…..

I have yet to see my first MMA fight, I don’t even know who the fighters are and can’t seem to spell UFC right for the life of me…. Just think, this stupid fuck managed to out predict you (the almighty MMA wizard) the last time you slithered through here.

Back to the sandbox little boy, real men make mistakes and have no fear of admitting it. Little boys like you lose shit straight up and can’t just accept it, it’s not a big deal every youngster grows up sooner or later.

I almost… and I mean ALMOST have a little respect for you Rico… No, really. I do. How can you not offer up some respect for someone like yourself that has been owned at every corner and still comes back for more?

Always appreciate you stopping by Rico, keep hanging around with the big boys and you will grow up before you know it.

One of these guys’ careers will be severely damaged come Saturday night. Either Tito will lose his big comeback match, or Forrest will lose his 3rd straight. Tito’s already had his time in the spotlight, so I’d hate to see Forrest lose.

Tito argues that he was fighting hurt last time against Forrest, and he’s 100% now. Well, I don’t believe there’s any such thing as 100% after back surgery. My prediction? Every time Tito shoots, Griffin sprawls and puts him in danger. Griffin by TKO in round 2.

Koscheck/Johnson oughtta be a slugfest, and those are hard to pick. 1st round KO either way, but I’ll go with Koscheck. More fights on his record, better opponents.

Nog by decision.

Extreme John November 20, 2009 at 9:10 am

@sean@lift chairs, thanks for getting some picks in I appreciate it when you guys get involved and contribute.

I would have to agree, one of these guys (Tito/Griffin) won’t be the same after this fight. I have to be honest though, based on the interviews I checked out yesterday as well as some of the interviews leading up to the event, I just don’t see Forrest being the same mentally as he was before the Silva incident.

Every fighter in the world and 95% of the fans think Shogun won. You said he had no chance. So if anybody was owned it was you. I also remember you saying Rumble was not very good and you were not impressed with him. Now you’re on his jock. Karo pulled out.

Tito
Rumble
Banha (Lil Nog has fought cans since the Soko upset)
Paulo Thiago
Sadollah (I don’t trust any Hammer House guys)

Koscheck has no chance of knocking out Rumble. Rumble is the future. If his takedown defense is as good as I think it is, he will fuck up GSP in 2010.

He has the beat striking at WW aside from Paul Daley in my opinion. Thiago Alves is up there as well. But Paul Daley us a world muay Thai champ which is crazy.

Reply

Extreme John November 20, 2009 at 9:04 am

@RICO, you bring up an interesting point in regards to Rumble. If GSP can’t take him down there’s no chance that GSP beats him standing up, way too much power. Shit if Serra KO’d GSP Johnson might blow his head into the 5th row.

Either way though I think that Rumble/Koz fight is going to be pretty exciting, it might end pretty quick but it should have fireworks.

Reply

RICO November 19, 2009 at 11:33 pm

Oh. Hahaha @ Fedor not really exciting you. Why would the best mma fighter of all time excite you? Makes sense.

Reply

Extreme John November 20, 2009 at 9:02 am

@RICO, my statements in regards to Fedor always seem to go misunderstood. It always gets Fedor fans hot under the color, I think all I am saying when it comes to Fedor is that I (personally) want to see him fight fighters with more experience and a better caliber than what has been put in front of him in recent years.

I give him all the credit in the world for his accomplishments and respect his abilities more than most would probably think that I do, but I do.

I just personally don’t look forward to any of the next fighters on the Fedor waiting list, add in thumb injury and it will be probably another 6 months before he fights again. His clock is ticking and to see him fight the guys that are next on the Strikeforce list won’t have me rushing to place bets or even watch.

Will never be a top 5 WW – toss him out of the UFC – he thinks he is the best on the planet – get real…. also like George S over Dent – Sotiropoulos looked great his last fight – VERY strong light-weight with great BJJ !!!

You might be as happy as I was to learn that Karo has been cut by the UFC, so our wish came through he’s donzo.
