It’s time to cook up my UFC 107 Predictions for the upcoming December 12, 2009 mixed martial arts event that features a packed card with Co-Main Events, one of the main events is the Lightweight Championship bout between Diego Sanchez and BJ Penn. Penn currently holds the Lightweight championship belt, Penn successfully defended his title when he defeated Kenny Florian at UFC 101.
Frank Mir will make his return to action against Cheick Kongo in the other Co-Main Event feature, Mir was recently crushed when he faced Brock Lesnar to unify the Heavyweight Championship at historic UFC 100. Those of you that missed UFC 100 should check out my UFC 100 Review to see some of the discussion that followed Brock Lesnar’s post fight antics, regardless Mir is looking to comeback against Kongo.
My UFC 107 predictions are based on who I would like to see win as opposed to who I actually think will win, that’s important for those of you looking for mma betting tips. I include the UFC 107 card, UFC 107 trailer, UFC 107 poster and the UFC 107 odds below. Hopefully you will find what you need in regards to the up and coming UFC 107.
UFC 107 Predictions
Diego Sanchez vs BJ Penn:
I can’t really explain how happy I am that the main event features a Championship bout again, in my UFC 106 Predictions I explained how I really dislike when main events in MMA are not Championship fights. If Diego Sanchez shows up to fight with BJ Penn in the same fashion he showed up to fight Clay Guida (video below) this thing could be one killer fight, not saying that BJ Penn is a pushover by any means. BJ Penn had an excellent showing for his UFC 101 fight against Kenny Florian, his technique as well as his striking ability looked ridiculous.
This is a pretty tough fight to call if you look at the most recent performances of Sanchez and Penn as both fighters were explosive and showed that they can pretty much fight anywhere, Penn has the experience advantage as well as a long list of top rated contenders he put out over the years. As I mentioned above I typically make my predictions based on who I want to win, since BJ Penn appears on my 10 Most Hated MMA Fighters list it’s safe to say I will be hoping for a title change. My UFC 107 prediction Diego Sanchez.
Frank Mir vs Cheick Kongo:
If you have been watching MMA for a while it’s safe to say that you know Frank Mir can run his mouth pretty good, he is already talking about how he wants a rematch against Brock Lesnar for the Heavyweight Championship. I hope that Mir isn’t making a big mistake in looking past Cheick Kongo, Kongo is a beast and depending on which Kongo shows up Mir might be in for another brutal battle.
Cheick Kongo might not be as big as Brock Lesnar but he is certainly one of the more powerful heavyweight’s in the UFC, Mir has a tremendous advantage when it comes to submission’s and he is no joke standing up either. As much as I like Kongo and even think there’s a chance he might beat Frank Mir I still have to go with Mir, his experience should keep him from getting in trouble as long as he keeps his head on straight and doesn’t make any mistakes. My UFC 107 prediction Frank Mir.
Kenny Florian vs Clay Guida:
Man oh man I can’t wait for this fight, there is just something about the high energy fast paced action that Clay Guida brings in to the octagon for every single on of his fights. Guida is going to need all of the energy he can get if he plans on defeating Kenny Florian who is coming off of a loss to BJ Penn in a fight that Florian was pretty much dominated in for the entire night.
Florian is no push over and he certainly has the tools in the tool shed to put Guida away, one challenge for Florian will be finding a way to control Clay Guida’s maniac like tendencies and movement. Florian hasn’t faced a fighter that moves as unpredictable and as quickly as Guida does, or at least not that I can think of under my current condition
You know I have to go with Guida on this one. My UFC 107 prediction Clay Guida.
Jon Fitch vs Mike Pierce:
If you were going to rush to judgement quickly you would look at the records of both fighters and easily pick Jon Fitch based on the amount of experience he has, not to mention he has a pretty impressive MMA record of 23-3-0. I honestly can’t say that I have done my homework on Pierce in order to give a decent excerpt of what he brings to the table, I know kill me.
On the other hand I have seen Jon Fitch fight for years, I know what he brings to the table and I am pretty confident that he will walk away with the win here. My un-educated Ufc 107 prediction Jon Fitch.
Paul Buentello vs Stephen Struve:
I wouldn’t mind seeing “The Head Hunter” Paul Buentello walk away with a win in this fight, and who knows maybe a head to go along with it. I can’t say that what I want to see happen in this fight will and as much as I would like to see Buentello win this fight I am going to have to go with Stephan Struve, he has been on fire lately and I can’t see Buentello being able to handle Struve’s speed. Not to mention he’s the stringiest guy ever. My UFC 107 prediction Stephen Struve.
UFC 107 Fight Card
- Diego Sanchez vs BJ Penn
- Frank Mir vs Cheick Kongo
- Kenny Florian vs Clay Guida
- Jon Fitch vs Mike Pierce
UFC 107 Preliminary Fight Card
UFC 107 Betting Odds
- Diego Sanchez vs BJ Penn
- Frank Mir vs Cheick Kongo
- Kenny Florian vs Clay Guida
- Jon Fitch vs Mike Pierce
- Paul Buentello vs Stephan Struve
I have a pretty good feeling this will be an exciting UFC, I am pretty confident that both Co-Main events will be much more exciting than the main event between Randy Couture and Brandon Vera, I wrote about that in my UFC 105 review. Would love to see Diego beat Penn.
For some reason I thought Tito was coming back and fighting for the first time tonight.

@Steve, I would love to see Sanchez beat Penn too, hopefully he comes in just as aggressive as he did against Guida.
Tito did come back and fight for the first time tonight against, he had a rematch against Forrest Griffin. Tito looked good the first two rounds, but dropped dead and was dominated in the third.
Really looking forward to these fights. It should be action packed. I like most of your picks and hope they turn out to be right.
Mike from Daily Shot Of Coffee´s last blog ..Poll: How Do You Make Your Coffee?
@Mike from Daily Shot Of Coffee, I can’t wait for this card and coming off of last nights card it should be the perfect cherry on top for UFC 2009.
Don’t forget there is UFC Fight Night Live on December 5th too.
I think Penn is one of my favourite UFC champs, he brings the excitement, not fighting just to keep his belt, but rather to end his opponent.. I like that attitude in the cage, I also see his all around skills being far too much for Sanchez..
Mir should rape Kongo unless he’s as stupid as he wants to try make us believe and actually attempts to stand with the hard-hitting parisian.. Kongo is one of the UFC’s worst “big names,” the man is one-dimensional and Frank, being the bigger man, should have no trouble enforcing his will on Kongo, taking him down and making short work of him on the ground, but if he stands with the kickboxer, he’s going to be in for a very painful night.

I am really looking forward to seeing Penn get back in the Octagon, my money is on BJ
Affliction clothing´s last blog ..In Stock Now – UK
@Affliction clothing,
he’s too much of a favorite for me to contemplate betting on him. That’s why I like Diego so much in this fight. He’s the hungrier fighter and almost a 3 to 1 underdog in a fight that could clearly go either way.
Man, there are gonna be some fireworks in these fights. Especially cant wait for the BJ v sanchez and Ken Flo v Guida fights.
I think BJ is the much more technical boxer and better jui jitsu. But if it does happen to go the distance, I think Penn will fade, and Sanchez could end up winning the last couple of rounds. I can see BJ Penn winning by submission though. He hasn’t lost in nearly 8 years in the lightweight div.
I think Kenny will beat Guida. I like both fighters alot but I think Guida will end up getting caught by short elbows and knees if he tries to clinch with Kenny. I also think on the ground Kenny has some sick BJJ. Still a tough call though.
Great write up as always mate and good to see some other points of view.
WarriorsOfMMA´s last blog ..UFC 107 Penn Vs Sanchez – Fightcard & Predictions
I will go with Penn over Diego. Peen has the experience and also has excellent defense. It will be a close fight tho.
Frank Mir is my pick as like Penn, he got the experience and endurance over Kongo. Its unfortunate that Lesnar is just 40 pounds bigger than him.
Guida is my man as he always puts up a good fight whoever hes opponent is. He will get hit but just keeps on firing back, Guida has a granite chin.
I don’t know Mike Pierce so I will go with Fitch on this one.
Buentello vs Struve, I go with Struve for no apparent reason.

@ZXT, thanks for making some picks Z I appreciate it.
In regards to Mir I think that 30+ lbs makes a huge difference, he won’t be giving up that kind of wait in this fight.
@eSINess, I hope Diego wins big time.
I know you hate PENN but don’t you think he will dominate enough to take down Sanchez?

Do you pick your NFL games the same way? By who you like and dislike?
How about those SAINTS. Thanks Saints and Company you make my wallet happy
Lets make UFC 107 a Super Safari Night.
Are you in town to watch it?
@SafariDave, yes I do make my picks the same way. Haha. In most cases at least.
Penn’s time begins to come to an end tonight.
Sanchez has 24 fights with only 2 losses. Hypothetically, if Penn fought Guida, on his best day, he could never do to Guida what Sanchez did to Guida. I say Diego Sanchez takes it lock, stock and barrell! And I have money on it!
@Daniel Churchill,
Smart man;)
@Daniel Churchill, It’s nice to see that I’m not the only one that see’s Diego just being tooooo much.
Penn has become so good after he wised up and started taking his training seriously. Sanchez is such a serious cat all the time, it’s hard for me to connect with him. I’d be OK with Penn hanging on to the title for a while.
@Gabe | freebloghelp.com,
So since the guy is serious it’s hard to connect with em………..Says a lot about you Sir:)
I actually prefer the real serious, focused fighters rather than the clowns like Jason Miller. However, I still think “normal” guys are the ones I root for…you know, the kind you can just sit at a bar and have a beer with. I can’t imagine doing that with Diego at all.
Gabe | freebloghelp.com´s last blog ..The secret ingredient for reaching goals
@Gabe | freebloghelp.com, haha yeah all though I wouldn’t really want to sit down with BJ Penn and have a beer either.
@Gabe | freebloghelp.com,
Yea, now I see where your going with that Gabe. I’d probably do the same…
I’d go with Gabe…I like Koscheck more than Diege even though Kos is an arrogant prick.
ZXT´s last blog ..What’s Hot on YouTube
What’s up, dude. Man, I have been looking forward to this card for a while. You are right; there are some killer fights on the card. I was severely disappointed by the last UFC and Tito Ortiz’s less than stellar comeback.
But yeah, I love it when Frank Mir starts running his mouth. Some journalists call it confidence. I’d say it’s more arrogance. Although he’s tough, he has had some set-backs in his career. I really question if he could beat Lesnar if they fought again. And you’re right; he better not overlook Kongo or he’s going to get himself knocked out. My vote – Mir.
Although I love Guida and get pumped to see his fight, Florian is talented and Guida better make sure he doesn’t get choked out. This is a tough call and should be the fight of the night. I’m not sold on him at totally dominating this one, but I’m rooting for Guida.
BJ Penn has come a long way from the old UFC days. I thought he pussed-out against GSP in their second fight, but maybe he was just outmatched. I’m going out on a limb here – Penn chokes Sanchez out.
@The Constant Complainer, Tito pretty much delivered what I thought he would in that fight with Griffin.
Clay doesn’t mind giving up his back, but that’s not a mistake he wants to make with Florian or it will be over real quick. Florian just bugs me and Guida is just awesome to watch fight, hopefully he mauls Florian but it will be really tough.
As for Mir, I don’t know man. He’s put on like 25 lbs of muscle, weighed in for this fight 20 lbs heavier than when he fought Brock. I think Kongo might have some trouble with Mir tonight, I like the mouth running. I hated Mir for a long time but gained tremendous respect for him after he came back from that motorcycle accident.
As for Penn, it’s time. Sanchez wins by mauling, I hope.
You know Extreme, I wrote about this today on my own blog. Your post has given me lots of food for thought, I feel that you make some very intriguing points. In fact, I wish I’d read it earlier, before I published my own article! All the best, lockpicker78
