UFC 97 Predictions and Live Results

Finally after what seemed like a 100 years there are finally some UFC Mixed Martial Arts events going on again and I could not be more excited about it. The agony of the short UFC break ended on Wednesday when the Ultimate Fighter 9 premiered on Spike TV, it was also UFC Fight Night Live. Special thanks to the UFC for coming back from the break with a Free card and the premier in one shot which leads up to the Saturday April 18th UFC 97 pay per view event. Something came to my attention today that I was not aware of, it seems that Jeff “The Inferno” Joslin has an MMA blog and has been posting his UFC Fight predictions as well, he also has decided to include me in his competition where he is nice enough to post my UFC Predictions and Results on his blog in comparison to what his predictions were. Now I have some serious added pressure when making my fight predictions, usually I base most of my predictions on who I like as opposed to who I truly believe will win the fight. Now I have to change ALL of that thanks to Josh… Haha nah I’m not going to change anything I will still make my UFC Predictions the same way I always do and don’t forget to check back here on April 18th during UFC 97 for my Live UFC 97 Results and play by play of each fight.

Here are my UFC 97 Predictions: UFC fighters on Twitter

UFC 97Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites
Saturday, April 18, 2009
Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec

Anderson Silva (23-4) vs. Thales Leites (13-1)
Hmmm ya know to be completely honest with you when it comes to this fight as the main event I could not possibly have any less interest in seeing the fight. It’s a terrible thing to say because both fighters are excellent at what they do, my fear is that unless Thales Leites presses the action and actually hits Anderson this will be nothing more than another Anderson Silva complete domination. We all know Anderson is about as sick of a fighter as we have seen in the last few years, he needs some opponents Im just not sure that Anderson Silva is going to have complications with Thales Leites. Now here’s the shocker, Im taking Thales Leites in this fight there is no real pay on Anderson winning so why bother, instead I will go for the underdog and see if I get lucky. Thales Leites is my pick. Anderson Silva won by Unanimous decision in what had to be the worst fight ever in an MMA event. Round by Round Results

Chuck Liddell (21-6) vs. Mauricio Rua (17-3)
Who doesn’t want to see Chuck Liddell come back and knock out Mauricio Rua at UFC 97? I am sure there are a few people out there, I am just not one of them. I am hoping for a Chuck Liddell win and I want to see it in either devastating or in a dominating fashion. My pick, Chuck Liddell. Mauricio Shogun Rua wins by TKO. Round by Round Results

Brian Stann (6-1) vs. Krzysztof Soszynski (16-8-1)
I stated in the beginning of this post that I wouldn’t change the way I do my UFC and MMA Predictions and this is proof of it. I am picking Brian Stann to win this fight and chances are you will always see me pick Brian Stann to win, he’s a Marine. Nuff said. Briann Stann is my pick. Krzysztof Soszynski wins by Tapout. Round by Round Results

Luiz Cane (9-1) vs. Steve Cantwell (7-1)
This should be a pretty solid fight between Cane and Cantwell, however it’s a no brainer for me when it comes to making my fight prediction for this fight. Prediction: Steve Cantwell wins this fight. Luiz Cane wins by Unanimous Decision. Round by Round Results

Cheick Kongo (23-4-1) vs. Antoni Hardonk (8-4)
It feels like it took a few fights for Cheick Kongo to get back to his original agressive self and now that he’s there I am hoping he will continue it in this fight. If Knogo gets and stays agressive this should be an easy win for Kongo. My prediction is Cheick Kongo. Cheick Kongo wins by referee stoppage. Round by Round Results

UFC 97 Preliminary Fight Card Predictions
Eliot Marshall (6-2) vs. Vinny Magalhaes (3-3-1) – Prediction: Eliot Marshall – Eliot Marshall wins by Decision
Denis Kang (31-11-1) vs. Xavier Foupa-Pokam (20-8) – Prediction: Denis Kang – Denis Kang wins by Decision
David Loiseau (18-8) vs. Ed Herman (14-6) – Prediction: Ed Herman – Ed Herman wins by Unanimous Decision
David Bielkheden (13-6) vs. Mark Bocek (6-2) – Prediction: Mark Bocek – Bocek wins by Rear Naked Choke 1st round
Ryo Chonan (16-8) vs. TJ Grant (13-2) – Prediction: Ryo Chonan – TJ Grant wins by decision
Jason MacDonald (21-11) vs. Nate Quarry (16-3) Prediction: Jason MacDonald – Nate Quarry wins by TKO
Sam Stout (14-5-1) vs. Matt Wiman (10-4) Prediction: Sam Stout – Smat Stout wins by Decision

Ok before I get out of here I wanted to remind you that My UFC Predictions and Mixed Martial Arts Predictions are not the predictions of a Professional, I would not recommend using my predictions in your own personal gambling or betting situations. I’ve never watched UFC but apparently it’s really good. It’s not very big here in the UK but is gaining popularity. Can this be watched over the internet?

There are a few sites that will have the fight streaming but your not going to find anything as far as a high quality feed or High Definition which UFC broadcasts their fights in. You should watch you will be hooked.

John, I must thank you. You single handedly got me back into the UFC. I was a follower here and there, and can actually say that I had watched since UFC 1. But I missed UFC’s 70 through 91. After reading your blog and catching up on TUF, I think a personal Netflix record for myself. I watched UFC’s 70 through 91 just in the month of March. All of them! I had to bump it up to four DVD’s at a time, but I got it done. I cannot wait until UFC 100. I’ve heard bits and pieces, but I’m hoping it will be historic!

I hope you dont plan on doing anything with your 1st 3 main card picks.
Luiz Cane is a baaad dude. His only loss is a DQ against James Irving. Using a Silva , Cane, Kryzstof paraly will make you some money. Betting against Silva and Cane is a futile gesture only resulting in enriching me.

@naturalist Thank you for taking the time to comment I always appreciate the feedback. I will consider the Parlay I very rarely do Parlays on MMA events, Football thats a different story. You also have to keep in mind that I said, many of my picks are based soley on my own personal views… Bottom line I pick who I like as opposed to who I think will win. I am also an underdog better for the most part add into it that I am hardly a Silva fan, I wouldn’t mind seeing an upset there. Doesn’t mean it will actually happen, just means I would like to see it.

I will let you know if I give the Parlay any play.
