Update All of Your Social Networks in One Place

Ping.fm Information

All of this social networking madness can drive your average teen, business owner or blogger into a frenzy when it comes to keeping “status updates” consistent and sharing information that you find online, without having to jump through a thousand hoops to get the job done. Let’s face it just about everyone on the planet has Facebook (over 350,000,000 actually), Twitter has exploded in popularity and everyone has that My Space page that they visit when there is absolutely nothing else that you can think of doing instead.

I am one of those blogging CEO‘s that believes that building an online community is extremely important for growing most blogs, or at least the blogs that most of you are working on at the time. If you plan on having an online community your going to find yourself creating plenty of new profiles at various social networking sites like, Twitter, Facebook, My Space, Friendster, Diigo, and Linkedin to name a few. There are literally hundreds of social networking sites that you can become active on, if you play your cards right and continue to keep things updated and share decent information your online community will continue to grow.

Update All of Your Social Networks in One Place

Ping.fm allows you to post to just about any social network from one simple place, updating your “status updates” and sharing your favorite articles and blog posts couldn’t be any easier than it is when using Ping.fm.

If you take a quick look at the Ping.fm screen shot above you will see an area that I entered my text that would be sent to the list of social networking sites listed on the left, as you can also see in that column you can add more social networks to send your message to once you hit “Ping it”. There seriously has to be at least 100 social networking sites that you can connect with Ping.fm, check out the screen shot below to see a few of the social networks that you can connect with Ping.fm in order to send status updates from one place.

Social Networking Sites

Ping.fm Toolbar Share on All of Your Social Networks

Now that you have an idea of how Ping.fm can make it easy for you to update all of your social networking profiles a snap, while doing it from one very easy to use site, it’s time to show you how easy it is to share your favorite blog posts and whatever else you find on the internet with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Plurk, My Space and whatever other social networking sites you choose.

Once you install the Ping Toolbar on your favorite browser you can share your favorite articles and finds on the internet within seconds, and the best part is whatever you share will be posted to all of your social networking profiles. If you look at the screen shot above you can see the “Ping This” in the toolbar, if your on a blog post or article that you enjoy and want to share simply click the “Ping This” button on the toolbar and within seconds all of your social network profiles will be updated. Your done, no site hopping.

I found Ping.fm thanks to Mike from Daily Shot of Coffee and I haven’t stopped using it since, I don’t use all of the features that Ping has to offer since I have only been using it for about 3 weeks now. I suggest taking a few minutes to check out Ping.fm and see if you find it useful, I posted a few more Ping.fm features below.

Ping.fm Services and Features

  • Ability to create “groups” to filter certain messages
  • Post from Anywhere >> to Anywhere
  • Support for iPhone, iPod Touch, WAP and SMS text messaging
  • Yahoo! Messenger
  • Google Talk, AIM, Windows Live Messenger and standard email

Aftr you check out Ping.fm take a second to leave a comment and share some feedback with everyone, seeing only my perspective can get old pretty quick.

P.s. I have a Ping Blackberry app I will be sharing here over the next few days, I have been testing it on my Blackberry to post to Ping.fm so that the message will be shared with all of my profiles even while I am on the go.

I’ve been using ping.fm on and off for quite a while now and it is very easy to use, I love the fact that I can post everywhere with one simple text message etc, ideal for me when I’m out and about and have the urge to tweet or post to facebook

Hi John, I just went to signup and it said my email was already being used. Sure enough, I tried a couple passwords and got in. It’s one of those that I setup and forgot about. Now I can start putting it to use.

When you’re as busy online as some of us are it is impossible to remember everything. That is why I use the free keyword searchable Tomboy Notes app. I put everything in there and then I can almost always find it again!

just wanted to get you up on 1 or two more that are out there. I was somewhat partial to hello txt (hellotxt.com) over ping.fm when first introduced to the two. I have also recently found zooloo.com which makes a decent iphone/ipod touch app. I too own a blackberry, im curious at what app you are speaking of. Is it blackping, or are you referring to socialscope?

John,
Nice review of ping.fm. I signed up back in the summer but I abandoned it. My problem is that I use Twitter for my blogs but FaceBook for friends and family only – so the messages that I send out are totally different for each therefore I couldn’t really take advantage of it. I also had it connected to my blip.fm account which meant every time I blipped a song everyone got the message. It was kinda funny when I figured that one out. lol
It’s a pretty handy for folks that have the same audience for all of their social networks.

Thanks for the info.

I used Ping last year but after deciding I was on too many networks, I stick to twitter and facebook mostly now. I love using SocialScope with my Blackberry (I think it is still in beta invite only) and I use Ubertwitter as well (Yes I have more than one twitter account). It looks like ping had added some features since I used it last, I used to integrate it into my Google Talk so I could easily post everywhere (including from my blackberry since I also have Google Talk on BB). The problem was I couldn’t keep up with all the networks, so…… just Twitter and Facebook now.

I have been using Ping.fm since it started and was in invite only. I use it on and off. Mostly to post new blog posts updates to several sites. I problem is like ilean’s I do not always want to post to every social media. I most things to facebook, jut not my blogs. I prefer certain people not know that I have an active social media life outside of facebook. Now I mostly use ping.fm mobile to send one text message to ping and it sends out to about 5 other social networks I am part of.

I have the same problem as ileane in that I wouldn’t want one ping to hit all the sites I subscribe to. The other thing is that if you have the tool bar you probably use that to highlight a post rather than the tweetmeme button or whatever thereby not passing on the rating via that button.

already subscribed to the apps and installed the toolbar and i find it very useful, one thing is that if you will just put the URL of your blog, it just convert it to the tiny URL format, it does not include the title or the first lines of your blog, you need to add some description when you publish, but for short messages and updates, this is awesome!

Hey John this sounds like something I should be using and like some of your readers I had no idea there were this many social networks out there. I just did something with videos that is similar to what Ping is doing with social networks. It’s called Tubemogul and it accepts takes your videos in one central website and then places them with over 20 video sites. Pretty cool if you do a lot of video like I do! But thanks for this, I will try it out, as far as I am concerned you cant be in too many places on the web as long as they are all legit.

Tamar (author of The New Community Rules – great book by the way) specifically mentioned ping.fm and how much she doesn’t like to see the same updates everywhere.

The main drawbacks I see to using something like ping.fm are the inability to select which sites you want THAT update to go to and not being able to customize what you share by where it is going.

I came up with my own system of doing a thumbs up and writing a review at StumbleUpon (SU) – keeping Twitter 140 character limit in mind when writing the beginnning of it.

I then feed that review (using more than one tool) to Twitter, FriendFeed, Facebook and (when I can keep it working Delicious). I’ve been meaning to write up that process and publish it.

By reviewing first on SU I can share images, longer comments, and excerpts from the post. Only the first part goes to Twitter and that is fine. The longer version goes to Facebook and FriendFeed but alas the images don’t get fed even though FriendFeed’s own Share on FriendFeed tool accepts images.

Do those of you who are using ping.fm believe it would be a better option? What are the pros and cons you have found from using it? (I have read the entire post and the comments above this one so thanks for those insights.) I’ll come back and read whatever others have to share as well.

For those who don’t know me yet I want to specifically mention the post featured in CommentLuv in this comment. It covers THE most important thing you can do for any Web site – so important that if you don’t understand it I will personally work free one-on-one with anyone who needs assistance getting it done.
