What is Blog Engage?

What is Blog Engage

Blog Engage is a Digg style blog directory that allows bloggers to submit their blog articles for free so that others can review, retweet, share and vote your articles up. If you are fortunate enough to receive positive votes from others that visit the Blog Engage community, your articles might show up on the main page of the community, this of course offers you more free traffic.

Saying that Blog Engage is a Digg style site is somewhat a slap in the face since most bloggers know that most blogs don’t fare well in regards to receiving any substantial traffic, Blog Engage offers a real traffic return that you will see in your Google Analytics. There is a simple to install and use Blog Engage WordPress Plugin that makes it simple for your blog readers to vote your article up, I use it here on Extreme John.

I have only been using Blog Engage on my blog since July of this year and it already ranks in my top 20 referrers over that time period, as you can see the results speak for themselves. It’s important to keep in mind that Blog Engage is more than a community to generate free Do Follow, Page Rank 4 backlinks. Blog Engage is a great place to network and learn from other bloggers.

google-analytics

You can find the handy “engage” or “vote” button as it appears on the site at the top of any of my single post pages as well as at the bottom of each single post page in my custom author information box. If you click the vote button you will be re-directed to the Blog Engage site where you can vote up the article, this of course depends if you are an existing member or not. If your not an existing member of the site (which you should be) you will be directed to the login or register page.

As you can see by the votes in the Blog Engage box displays how many times others have engaged your post on BE, in the case above you can see my Blog Engage review had more engages than it did Twitter retweets.

I would recommend the Blog Engage plugin to any new or existing bloggers, new bloggers can benefit by networking and growing new relationships and existing bloggers can benefit from the traffic as well as the networking. If you currently use the Blog Engage plugin on your WordPress blog leave a comment and share your traffic results or experience, if you haven’t tried the plugin yet give it a shot. After you try the plugin come back and vote this up on Blog Engage

Hey John what a great article about our community. I really liked the way you explained how we work and why it’s beneficial for other bloggers to use the service.

I started blogengage due to the ignorance at digg and the fact that it’s impossible to get on the front page. Sure our traffic isn’t as much as digg but I’m sure it will get you more comments and social interaction that digg would ever bring you.

We have a good community building up John and it’s only getting better. We have over 7000 members and about 4000 active bloggers visiting monthly. We have to remember some bloggers blog once or twice and month and don’t visit so often. I socially shared this with the buttons you have but honestly you have to get that Sexy bookmarks back in here it’s really not the same without it’s convenience.

I can see you’re working crazy hard on your thesis template! I love what you’re doing and look forward to seeing the final finished product! I also want to thank you for supporting our contest John. Your 50USD contribution will be greatly appreciated by our winners of the contest.

See ya around my friend.

Alas I’m using Joomla for my business site (since it’s not just a blog and I’m having trouble organising a better account capable of hosting a blog AND a website) otherwise I’d really love some of these wordpress plugin ideas of yours :)

Prefer it to Digg. Only big site play Digg and they usually ban power users.

I like Blog engage mainly because i get a lot of serious bloggers there and so i get a lot more comments to my blog than i used to get usually. And hence the bounce rate is really low.

Just wanted to say thanks for this review – I had looked at the service b/c you and a few other bloggers use it, but didn’t realize it was a pretty good source of traffic. I’ll definitely consider adding it.

When I first started blogging, I wanted to add so much stuff to my blog to give different services a chance. Now I’m loath to add anything, b/c I just don’t want to be updating plug-ins or dealing with increased load time all the time.

I really want a service to step up and offer me more publicity personally, and do it in such a way that I can genuinely benefit them as I build my blog. Social networking matters, but content is why we’re here, no?

@ashok, in my opinion if you have a blog you should use it. It’s free traffic and Do Follow backlinks would make someone silly not to.

I’ve just started to submit my post to BlogEngage, you know this is the first bookmarking site that I submitted my blog post and received referral traffic. I used to submit my blog post manually, so it takes me less than 5 minutes to submit a blog post. :high:

@Lee Ka Hoong@Make Money Online, submitting is very quick at Blog Engage. All though I wish it would carry my tags and other info over so I didn’t have to add them manually. I hate that.

Thanks for your post. In fact, I was not aware of Blogengage. I’ll become a member. My experience with Digg has been that there is a lot of manipulation over there. I may be wrong, but this is what is my impression about Digg.

@Extreme John, John, I became a member of BlogEngage two days back. But, yesterday, I found that my account does not exist at BlogEngage, which means that it got deleted or was deleted. I understand that there is a condition that one should modify the user settings after becoming a member and upload an image / avatar. In fact, I modified the account settings as required. There was an option to accept the default avatar in the settings, so I accepted that. I don’t know why my account got deleted inspite of that.

My personal suggestion to the owner / administrator of BlogEngage would be to encourage people to become members and not to discourage them like this. Mine was from a genuine email (from my own domain name) and with a genuine IP address. And, I didn’t even get any email that my account has been deleted.

If BlogEngage has to compete with the likes of Digg, it has to encourage membership and make more and more genuine members, though I appreciate that some basic checks have to be in place. But, genuine people should not be turned away like this.

I’m writing this message here since BlogEngage Administrator / Moderator is a regular visitor to your site. Thanks for the indulgence for allowing this comment.

Hi Extreme John,

Source Blogger (finally) submitted his first article to Blog Engage just this evening. The article is our last post which we see has also been picked up by your KeywordLuv plug-in.

You seem to be quite a fan of this site. What have we been missing? (laughs) Any other sites similar to Blog Engage that may interest either Source Blogger or your readers?

Your good friend,
