I hope everyone had an excellent Christmas weekend, I failed miserably at writing a Merry Christmas post and managed to fail at sharing pictures of the decorations from around our house this holiday season. I have a few decent excuses, in addition to covering for someone that can’t manage to get out of bed in the morning I was also pretty deep in desolving one of my online businesses and moving those efforts to focus on Extreme Tan and Smoothies. That’s another story, anyway… I hope you had a very Merry Christmas, hopefully I can get a few pictures posted here over the next few days.
Anyway, I stopped by one of my favorite blogs Big Fish Top Dogs a few minutes ago and checked out Theresa’s post, “Ready to Hit the Ball Out of the Park in 2011?“. I realized I really have no written goals for 2011 that I can really write down and share here, hell I thought about writing a 2011 goals post weeks ago, but… I got nothin’. What’s the deal?
Along with my failure to do the goals, and Christmas related posts I also haven’t had much time to schedule up a bunch of new posts for the year ending 2010 the way I I did last year, instead I write one when I get an extra minute or two. I did manage to squeek out my “10 Most Popular Posts of 2010” and “10 Facts About the Extreme John Blog in 2010“, neither post is really all that exciting. Decent filler stuff at best.
Simple 2011 Goal
- Dominate
Sounds weird I’m sure, it seems weird to me as well but when I really think of what I want to do in 2011 I realize that for the first time in a long time, I might not really be sure. The only thing I seem to be sure of or that seems to come to my mind when I think of goals for 2011 is “dominating”. I don’t really seem to be so focused on exactly what I want to dominate, I just know that I want to follow a no bullshit path to working with the best people and completely dominating in whatever it is that I might be doing.
Parting Shots
I feel like the early part of 2010 started off with the fire that I wanted, it was a fire that seemed to burn in everyone around me. A lot changes in a year. I’ve seen some good friends put together a positive year, some in business, others in their personal life or in the workplace. I’ve also seen people that were on fire fizzle out, stray from their goals and main focus of 2010 and never return to the path, sad but true.
One thing I know for sure is that if you sit around and worry about everyone else and focus on the negatives you end up trapped and soon see negative results yourself. I won’t walk that path. In 2010 I faced my fare share of adversity and I don’t see 2011 offering any less, I won’t run from adversity just like I didn’t in 2010 and I won’t let adversity get me off my focus… or “goal”.

Do you have any specific goals for 2011? Take a second to share a few of your specific goals by leaving a comment, who knows maybe I can leach off of one of your goals heading into 2011.
P.s. I just realized I also managed to fail at posting pictures from the Extreme Tan and Smoothies Christmas party this year. I really need more time in a day around this time of year.

Dominate. I love it! I may steal it for my own goal
My No. 1 is: Be Happy in the Moment.
I feel I spend too much time worrying about EVERYTHING all the time and it stops me from enjoying life, and life is too short for that.
But i think for me, No 1. comes with 1a and 1b attached:
1a. Get organized
1b. Stay organized.
One of my biggest stresses is when I’m all over the place and not organized.
Oh and I totally relate to your lack of posting. Just realized today that I didn’t think to do my top sports moments of 2010 piece like I do every year—probably because i can’t believe 2010 is over!

I can understand Jen that’s for sure, 2010 blew by, especially the last half of it. Sheeesh!
As for your number one goal Jen, it’s a good one. I hope you stick to it, get the most out of life. You only have one and you can’t get it back, stressing yourself into a ball of mess isn’t going to do anything for your health. Here’s to a healthy and prosperous 2010 Jen!

As you may have noticed… well, as I noticed… subconsciously, I was writing a lot of recent posts to define what success really means… and to hunt for a definition. And for the most part…failed at providing anything concrete. (See CommentLuv link below)
I admire you for wanting to dominate, although I can’t really say what that really means. For many bloggers, it is just a continuation of what we are already doing. (Still puzzled over the phrase: “taking things to the next level”)
I do take some comfort in knowing that many bloggers still do not know me. And yet, I am uncomfortable knowing that many bloggers still do not know me. Hmmm….
John, if we miss our “calling” to dominate in the blogosphere, maybe we can dominate in small business? lol
Have a great New Year if I don’t hear from you!

Very true Jeff all though I will say that most of the goals I write on here have nothing to do with blogging. As much as a few others might consider me a blogger the reality is that I’m a business owner, pretty much every goal I have has something to do with business more so then it does blogging, the blogging bit is a relaxer and a great way to network with new people. Not to mention, learn.

Come on dude, you already “dominate”! LOL

Hope you do kill it in 2011.
I agree, focusing on others or negatives is a fast way to go backwards.
Focus on you and move forward, all you can do and control. Why stress what you can control.

Exactly, no sense on wasting time on things that we don’t control anyway.
I am focused more on my retail store making a turn around this year from a sub-par to crappy year in 2011.
I am creating a line up of in store promotions and discontinuing a rewards program that was sucking the life out of its-self.
I have a child graduating in 2011 so I will need lots of cash to get thru this year.
Lets all crank out some winning ideas and prosper this NEW YEAR.

I like the focus Dave, and it sounds like you have a pretty solid attack plan for generating that cash you need.

I think this is a pretty awesome, soul searching post with some great insights John. It’s not easy to sit down and say, “Wow, I was on fire, now what?” From what I know about you, you did hit the ball out of the park last year. Yet here you are asking incredible questions: What went right? Who was I hanging around with? Where was my focus? What do I really want to do in 2011? What will I be no bullshit about? Who do I want to work with? What attitude will I bring to the New Year?
As far as 2011 goals posts go this is pretty awesome. Sometimes we can’t figure out where we want to go until we see where we came from. This post is extremely inspirational. Goals aren’t easy… if we’re serious about them we’ve got to ask some tough questions. Thank you so much for your total honesty and for being so open. I can’t wait to see where you go with “dominate”!
Oh, and thanks for including my post in your article John! I owe you one (or 2, or 3) and it will be my pleasure to return the favor! Love your blog!

BTW – I didn’t answer your question John
My number one goal is to get some of my “lazy” assets working for me again… this means getting creative around the tight credit markets in commercial real estate.
My fun goal? Social media… love it. My blog is the perfect platform for meeting awesome people. I’m really looking forward to carrying out my online goals this year!

I have a few lazy assets I wouldn’t mind putting to work for me again, but the time isn’t right just yet. I have to focus on the dominate part first then go back and revisit some of those 100′s of domains I have and see if I can get more coin out of them.

Youy give me entirely too much credit Theresa, but at the end of the day I guess all of the talk is cheap it comes down to delivery. We can talk, and I can preach about dominating all I want, if I fall off the horse all that talk = nonsense.
My pleasure btw.

Dominate is a good word. I’m thinking two words for my goal this year..brand development..I might just have to do one of these goal posts this year tool..I think I skipped last year.
Twitter: extremejohn
Give it a shot, if you need the filler it might turn out to be a great bonus post too.

Hello! I have already read a lot of posted new year’s goals and come to think of it, yours is the unique one. Very optimistic and challenging. And I was thinking of somehow achieving the same goals as yours, “dominate”. Anyway, thanks for this interesting post. Looking forward for your Smoothies Christmas photos to share.
