Some of you might have noticed that I have started to impliment some advertising over the last few days here on the Extreme John blog, if this is your first time here you should probably know that marketing and advertising are amongst my favorite things in life.
Aside from my typical business related articles where I throw in a mention of one of our business’s I never have any advertising going on here, I never really considerd my blog a place to advertise other services and products. Now that this dump has hit the top 100k sites on Alexa.com and is currently rocking the Google PR 4 I have more and more people asking me about advertising here and what it would cost. I have no intention of getting into that right now, however it has caused me to begin testing a few different areas of my blog to see what will grab clicks and what won’t, hence the WordPress Page Peel Plugin.

Before jumping into just selling people links or ad space I want to make sure that the people purchasing ad space on my blog would be getting a return on their investment, being a business owner myself I can’t stand when the return on my investment stinks. I constantly have text links on my blog that I use to target specific keywords on Google or for the Googlebot, I know what type of traffic these links can collect and the value of those text links for anyone looking to potentially by text link ads.
One area of my blog that I have no idea about is the corners of my blog, this is wide open and very valuable real estate as far as I am concerned, it sits outside of the left or right column and it’s almost impossible to miss or in some cases…. avoid touching. Seems like a Page Peel ad would be perfect for testing out the click through rates (CTR), I have had some experience with page peel ad’s in the past, but never with a WordPress blog.
Large Page Peel graphic size 500 x 500 pixels – displayed when Page is Peeled
To be completely honest with you, having a page peel ad displayed on your WordPress blog takes about 30 seconds, assuming of course that you have some graphic design ability or have an in-house graphic designer to make the images for you. Lucky for me I have Dawn who takes care of all the sexy stuff you see around my blog.
You can download WordPress Page Peel plugin here, upload it to your blog and activate it in the plugin section. There are a couple of quick options, most of which you don’t even need to edit or touch except for the url you want to send the reader to when clicked. Don’t forget your going to need to have some graphics made in 75 x 75 and 500 x 500 pixels in order to replace the default page peel ad that comes with the plugin.
If you want to see an example of the WordPress Page Peel plugin in action just scroll up on my site than hover over the upper right hand corner of my blog, the current ad I am running is for an Unlimited Month of Tanning for Only $14.83 at our indoor tanning salon business, Extreme Tan and Smoothies.
If you found this useful please give it a quick Retweet on Twitter, or vote on Blog Engage I would greatly appreciate you sharing the information and of course your feedback is always welcome, take a moment to leave a comment I always reply.

I’ve seen people offering these things for use on a static HTML site, but I hadn’t heard of it for a blog yet. I’ll have to hop on and update a few of mine to see what I can get for a space on my site.
@RW so far so good the clicks are pretty solid, I won’t have a true idea of how it does until the weekend. As with any form of marketing or advertising it’s safe to say everyone will achieve different results and CTR.
Hey John! Thank you for the plugin link! I have been looking for this plugin a couple of weeks! I didn’t know it was free! You saved me a lot of time. It will be another place to display ads on my blog! Thanks!

Peel ads is damn cooler than traditional ones IMO. I am not yet using it on my two blogs but I have only website only which I am using it to promote the Twitter account of it. (IslandWebsite.info)

Btw dude since ages am wondering how to put these crazy funny emoticons above the comment area.. as you place them above. You use any plugin for that? I tried one dunno when exactly (months ago) and it gave a fatal death (error) so I remove. What are you using for this?
